Some of the authors in the collection are new to me (in that I haven't read them before), but I'd certainly seek out more of their work, as well as the ones I know, from this collection.

This is one of those short stories that feels like a sketch for a much longer work. This could have been a tight, tense, claustrophobic techno-thriller. At this length, though, none of the characters have time to develop up to a believability threshold, the action is too linear, and there is no real sense of peril, as one hasn't had time to become attached to any of the characters. The reflective coating on mirrored glasses can be very fragile and prone to scratching. Some high-end sun glass brands can come with anti-scratch coating. There can be steps implemented to protect the sunglasses and prevent scratching or damage. Sterling has coined various neologisms to describe things that he believes will be common in the future, especially items which already exist in limited numbers. On reading this story, which I read before any of the others in this anthology, I didn't feel like it actually belonged to the cyberpunk genre, though having read the whole anthology now and gone through something of a shift in my understanding of what cyberpunk is --or at least was-- I can totally get behind it. Meltdown has a place for you as a schizophrenic HIV+ transsexual chinese-latino stim-addicted LA hooker with implanted mirrorshades and a bad attitude. Blitzed on a polydrug mix of K-nova, synthetic serotonin, and female orgasm analogs, you have just iced three Turing cops with a highly cinematic 9mm automatic. The residue of animal twang in your nerves transmits imminent quake catastrophe. Zero is coming in, and you're on the run.If you’re completely new to tabletop RPGs you’ll be hard pressed to find a better beginner boxed set than the Jumpstart Kit. That said, the core book is well-organized, clearly-written, and suitable for newcomers. It goes deeper and broader than the Jumpstart Kit and takes more time to absorb. To return to the food analogy, the Jumpstart Kit is what you want if you’re eager to get into the game right away. You can get to eating those tacos almost immediately. Mmm… taaacos! But if you don’t mind doing more reading and taking the time to absorb the full Cyberpunk Red experience, the core book is the way to go. A cerveza, freshly-cooked chips, and home-made salsa while I wait for my tacos? Yes, please!
