About this deal

I’m slightly surprised Tamiya didn’t give it a more colourful name like their other cars of that era, but I guess “Monster Beetle” is a pretty straightforward and literal way to sum it up! gear ratio (with the kit-standard 18T pinion gear) gives great drive. The model is also compatible with 20T pinion gears (for a 33.61:1 gear ratio). Steel brace for the servo saver, which necessitated longer upper screw pins for the upper front suspension arms This gear-driven 4WD chassis is based around a lightweight and tough monocoque frame, with power provided by the centrally-positioned motor. Reduction gears on each axle slow drive shaft rotation for immense traction, great ground clearance, and the ability to take on tough off-road terrain. The gearbox is sealed to protect from dust and debris, and integrated into the frame; built-in differential gears provide superb traction and durability with the use of included diff putty. 4-wheel double wishbone suspension utilizes friction dampers, while a 2-piece tie rod steering setup with the servo on the left gives excellent response. Yellow wheels are fitted with 115mm diameter hybrid pin spike/lug pattern tires for superior cushioning and grip. The chassis utilizes a ‘square’ setup with similar tread and wheelbase lengths. With the central chassis together we start to work on the steering tie rods. These are steel and, as it this a Tamiya, you can just screw the 5mm adjusters on each end until they match the length shown in the manual.

Every angle of the chassis has something that looks interesting and unconventional. This is one of the great charms of older designs. At the time no one knew what would make a great RC car so all of the designers were trying new things to help pioneer the types of cars that we currently use. Left: Take a closer look at the complex drivetrain, shown here in this profile view of the chassis. With these built we then mount them in the rubber protective covers and place them in each of the chunky plastic arms. (Note - As I was using universals I also but a few 0.1mm shims between the 10x2mm pin and bearing to take out any movement and vibration). Front double wishbone and rear trailing arm setups are cushioned by high-performance CVA oil dampers. Body is molded in red ABS Plastic. It depicts a customized Beetle with gaping fenders, triple auxiliary lights and a shortened rear end.And combining their high-rise, go anywhere looks with the evergreen shape of a VW Beetle resulted in yet another hit for the Japanese model company Tamiya. The rear axles are next, and I was surprised to find that the kit comes with rear universal drive shafts. This is a great thing as they are much more efficient at putting the power down through the whole suspension range. The next task was to squeeze all of the wires into the chassis and make it look neat. I took my time here as I am a little OCD about wiring. There is quite a lot of space, but it was a little tight around the speed controller. It is worth doing this though as it will be a pain later on in the build process. Superlative cushioning and grip are provided by 130mm-diameter, 58mm-width lug pattern pin spike tires on flashy gold color plated wheels.

Replace the rear suspension spring with a slightly softer, or shorter, spring option. This will remove bounce and stiffness from the rear. There is an air of strength and poise with this chassis. It feels solid, like a car that is begging for you to take it out and have fun. I tried to carefully recreate this exact look, when building this model. So I hope it looks pretty close. I recommend drilling out the screw holes slightly, and fitting m3 nuts and bolts in their place, thus eliminating the problem self tapping screws cause! Wear can also affect the fit if the rear suspension arms in the gearbox sides. wear on this joint causes the rear wheels to angle inwards and flap around. New gearbox sides will cure the problem and re re frog ones are a direct replacement The new for 2019 Radio Control Tamiya Monster Beetle TRAIL has just been released. This new 4WD twist on the 1986 classic is sure to turn heads. The Monster Beetle is a favorite of countless RC veterans, myself included. It is a classic Tamiya kit, which means beautifully illustrated instructions. It’s a great entry-level vehicle that is easy to build and fun to drive. Ceramic grease is okay for the gears, but again, the lightest coating is best. Most people put too much grease on the nylon gears. Super light coating with a tooth brush is enough. You risk mixing the ceramic grease with the anti-wear grease, and that is a bad combination. ABS Resin Space Frame ●Rear-Wheel Drive ●3-Bevel Differential Gear ●2-Piece Steering Tie-Rod ●Suspension: Double Wishbone (Front); Trailing Arm (Rear)

Requires: Radio Control System with 1 Servo, 7.2v Battery & Charger, suitable Paint for the Bodyshell (optional), Tools for Assembly. The classic Tamiya Monster Beetle is an iconic R/C kit. This version takes the classic body, shrinks it to a smaller scale, and mounts it on a variant GF-01 chassis called the GF-01TR! Be all of this as it may, though, this car maintains its modern collectability due to its durable design and unique, scale look. This R/C model assembly kit creates a vehicle which offers an excellent off-road drive. Molded in detailed ABS plastic, its racy body is inspired by customized Volkswagen Beetles, and features exaggerated fenders, a simplified rear end, triple auxiliary lights and more. Metal-plated parts recreate headlights, auxiliary lights and the rear depiction of the engine. The GF-01TR chassis provides a dynamic off-road drive.

I rescued the poor thing from the bushes and straight away noticed the problem. On the right side of the gearbox, the round end of the swing shaft had popped right out of its place in the (short) gearbox joint. Its almost as if the right hand side Swing shaft is too short??The injection-moulded plastic body accurately captures the classic Tamiya Monster Beetle shape and style. You can find it in my showroom here: (There are some more posts for it while making progresses, was my beginning here, and I forgot to make a nice build thread out of it) This radio controlled model features an all new 1/14 scale, stylised version of the timeless Volkswagen Beetle Body, mounted on the new all-action 4WD GF-01TR chassis fitted out with big tyres for rough and tumble off-road fun. Whoa~ Quite a lot going on in this photo.. a slipper clutch mod? plastic insert shape that follows the shape of the transmission.. threaded rod and nuts suggest a different motor mount position(perhaps larger pinion) as well. Do tell us more!
