The GTS 19 is unlike any Brooks Adrenaline you’ve run in before. The 12 mm drop midsole is still dual-density, but of a completely different kind. Unlike the GTS 18 which had a firmer medial post attached to a single-density midsole, the GTS 19 has a DNA Loft crash pad on the outer side.

You might want to size up before making a commitment and heading out for your first run in the Glycerin. The shoe felt quite snug, with separate tester evaluations reporting slightly crammed toes, chafing by the Achilles, and a midfoot that was too narrow, causing pins and needles. The maiden voyage of the Glycerin GTS was a 5-mile hilly route. Although they had an ample bounce out of the box, they were stiff and I knew I was in for a break-in period. However, this room also provides comfort without exposing your step due to the strong protection from the midsole and outsole.Brooks offers a combination of color tones in the upper, including some bright reflective ones. These not only look good but also helps on those dark runs. Thankfully the distaste went away. I couldn’t go especially fast in them, but my easy to moderate days were a breeze. Once I put them in a rotation with my other shoes, I grew to appreciate them even more. The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 19 has split with its medial-post but most of the shoes in this category are still married to one. So if you don’t like the idea of an Adrenaline GTS without a medial post, this section is for you. This major update alters the Adrenaline’s character at a fundamental level. And just how? That’s what this review is about.

The heel fit is important in the stability trainer because it can either add or subtract an amount of the stability felt. The Glycerin GTS 19 heel fit adds to the stability. I have never run in either a Glycerin or Transcend in all my years of running. So, I put them on for the first time expecting to have it feel similar to the Adrenaline. If you want to stay within the Brooks’s family of shoes, there are two options. You can go higher support (vs. the GTS 19) with the Transcend 6 or opt for a lighter shoe in the form of the Ravenna 10. It took at least 30 miles before I was familiar with how it handled. I experienced tightness in my obliques for probably the first time ever and it was not particularly fun.

PROS AND CONS

The Adrenaline has also become progressively softer over the years. The GTS 18 was softer than the 17; and when you compare the 17 to versions such as the GTS 14 then you’ll realize what we’re talking about. Incidentally, the Adrenaline 14 was the last time this model featured a separate heel crash pad. The midsole is made of a single density DNA Loft EVA compound. This material provides a cushioned, yet bouncy, feel. It translates in a comfortable ride from the first step. The inner midsole doesn’t have a medial-post and is softer than the outer side. So that makes the GTS 19 what – a reverse Adrenaline? The midsole is extended further up. The ‘rails’ on each side of the shoe cradled my foot. The Bio degradable BioMoGo foam complemented the guide rails nicely. It felt soft to the touch.

The upper features a dual layer air mesh material that is breathable, flexible, and durable. It adapts and molds to your feet resulting in an incredibly comfortable fit. Expect around 350-400 miles out of the Adrenaline. There’s plenty of rubber on the outsole, and the midsole material doesn’t lose its cushioning for a long time. The insole will compact over time, nothing outside the wear and tear process. On the other hand, the Adrenaline GTS 19 is a competent daily trainer. The GTS weighs 11-ounces so it’s not the fastest shoe in town, but for everything else, it does just fine. UPPER FIT QUALITY The engineered fit case on the heel cup has a padded ankle area as well as a rubber heel protection.
