About this deal

In this blog post, we’ll compare the Onkyo TX-NR797 and the Denon AVR-X3700H to see which one comes out on top. The Onkyo TX-NR797 is a 7.2 channels AV receiver with 100 watts per channel. It has Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support, as well as 4K HDR pass-through. If surround sound is of utmost importance, it’s doubly important to make sure your intended speaker configuration can be driven by a receiver. It is absolutely vital to research all the components of your home theater setup and make sure that they can work in harmony. The company was founded in 1946 as the Osaka-based Owada Radio Shop. It eventually became the Tokyo-based Onkyo Corporation we know today. The Denon AVR-X3700H produces an incredibly good and strong 187 watts (4 ohms) in stereo mode. The power consumption is reduced from an average of 324 watts to only 124 watts via the eco mode “On”. In combination with the right speakers, the sound is clear, precise, and rich in detail. The big advantage of the AVR-X3700H is that it can handle both small and large speakers very well. Denon AVR-X3700H Review: Handling & Accessories If you have the same signal that peaks at 30 volts being sent to two pairs of outputs instead of one (bi-amping - one amp for woofer, one amp for midrange/tweeter), then:

Like its amp siblings that have an “H” at the end of the name, this Denon amp has music streaming with HEOS. This is Denon’s own streaming platform (which Marantz also uses), and it supports most popular music services. It is all easily controlled with the HEOS app on the mobile. The interface is very user-friendly, and reminiscent of Sonos. Be aware that Apple Music and YouTube Music are not directly supported, but since the receiver has both Airplay 2 and Bluetooth, it is still advisable. So overall, yes – Denon receivers are definitely worth considering if you’re in the market for a new AV receiver. They offer excellent sound quality, build quality, and features at a reasonable price point. Does Onkyo Have Heos? I'm interested to know which Onkyo receiver did active bi-amping and how it did it - were the crossover points and driver levels fixed to work with a bundled speaker (like most speakers passive crossovers are)? Or were they switchable to work with a few different speakers in a series designed to work with it? If both were fully customizable, that'd be amazing. I doubt it though, the receiver is probably 20 years old with no DSP, so the filters are probably discrete circuits. As the baby of the 2020 Denon X-Series, the AVR-X2700H has a slightly lighter version of the Audyssey speaker calibration technology than its bigger brothers. Nonetheless, the MultEQ XT measurements need only a few small tweaks to the levels before we’re happy with the set-up. You can also switch between two sets of Audyssey measurements if you can’t quite make up your mind. The Denon AVR-X3700H is also set up for multi-zone and media streaming support, via a Zone 2 control, and the HEOS app. The limitation of only two zones is one area that differentiates the AVR-X3700H from the AVR-X4700H, and honestly could be the thing that eventually makes me upgrade. This difference is unfortunate since both AVRs have the same number of amplified channels, and the same number of speaker posts, and the same number of maximum channels for processing. So, it seems like support for three zones is just a feature that was reduced for the lower-priced product.

Denon is one of the leading manufacturers of high-end audio/video equipment and home theater systems. Their receivers are highly regarded for their excellent sound quality, build quality, and features. In general, Denon receivers offer great value for the price. The company’s attention to detail is also evident in the receiver’s user interface which is typically easy to use and navigate. Custom install ready: The Denon AVC-X3700H features external control and IP control capabilities for easy customization and compatibility with third-party integration solutions. There’s a lot to like about both the Onkyo TX-NR797 and the Denon AVR-X3700H. They’re both 7.2 channel receivers with support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, they have similar power output, and they offer a wealth of features for customizing your home theater experience. So which one should you buy? By visually guiding you through each step in the setup process, the award-winning Denon Setup Assistant ensures you get set up right the first time. Every home theatre is different — that’s why Denon uses the premium Audyssey MultEQ XT32 room calibration technology from Audyssey that automatically measures and optimizes your AV amplifier to provide a truly immersive 3D audio experience custom-tailored to your unique listening environment.
