About this deal

The boys later come to a high railroad trestle. Everyone in the group is wary of crossing the bridge lest a train come along but Teddy insists they can make the crossing safely and not have to walk five miles upstream to the nearest bridge. When the boys reach the halfway point, a train comes and Vern and Gordie are forced to run for their lives, just barely making it across. Chris and Teddy seem to be more admiring of them after they were nearly killed. It's not King's trademark horror; it is actually free of the constraints of any so-called 'genre'. It is a coming-of-age character-study novella set in 1960 Maine where monsters are not hiding behind bushes but instead live in the hearts of people - the setting and themes at which King excels. The coming-of-age film Now and Then (1995) has been described as a "female" version of Stand by Me by many critics.

Gli amici entrano ed escono nella nostra vita come camerieri in una sala di ristorante, lo avete mai notato? Vern overhears his big brother, Billy, talking with his friend, Charlie, about finding the body. Billy does not want to inform police because it could draw attention to a car theft he and Charlie committed. When Vern tells his friends about the body, the four boys—hoping to become local heroes—decide to look for it. After Chris steals his father's pistol, he and Gordie run into local hoodlums "Ace" Merrill and Chris's older brother, "Eyeball". Ace threatens Chris with a lit cigarette and steals Gordie's Yankees cap, which was a gift from Denny. Lang, Brendan (July 28, 2016). Brownsville, Oregon has held an annual "Stand By Me Day" since 2007. The event has attracted international participants. [22] On July 24, 2010, a 25th Anniversary celebration of the filming of Stand by Me was held in Brownsville. The event included a cast and crew Q&A session, an amateur pie-eating contest, and an outdoor showing of the film. [55] In the end, through The Body King deconstructs what life in a small community can really mean. He does away the mythical community of perfect neighbors, where schoolteachers are moral compasses, parents excel in their roles and children are free to experience happy childhoods. He ends The Body by exposing an authentic depiction of what life can be like in small communities. A place where parents can be indifferent and abusive, where teachers can be corrupt, neighbors can be hypocritical and where children can die. But it also a place where friends can bloom and where the bonds created in childhood can become stronger. Waxman, Olivia (August 8, 2016). Traditionally coming of age stories do not tend to focus on a subject as dark as the one in this novella. More conventional storylines lean around the subjects of first loves, the protagonist place in society or their stance when confronted by the statue’s quo. But in this novella what ushers the boys into maturity is their first encounter with death. In the stories beginning all four boys seem to have regular childhoods, they spend their summers together and meet at a place that to many is the icon of childhood, a tree house. But it can be argued that King’s intention in writing this novella was not solely to explore a coming of age story. But to reveal the darker aspects of the adult world and to offer a criticism of the idealization of small-town life. In Lisa Rogak's unauthorized biography Haunted Heart: The Life and Times of Stephen King, a friend of King's, George McLeod, claimed that King had cribbed the idea from a short story McLeod had written, but her claims are disputed

The most important things are the hardest things to say. They are things you get ashamed of because words make them smaller. When they were in your head they were limitless, but when they come out they seem to be no bigger than normal things. But that's not all. The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried; they are clues that could guide your enemies to a prize they would love to steal. It's hard and painful for you to talk about these things ... and then people just look at you strangely. They haven't understood what you've said at all, or why you almost cried while you were saying it. Apt Pupil--a golden California schoolboy and an old man whose hideous past he uncovers enter into a fateful and chilling mutual parasitism. The next day, the boys wade across a swamp, discovering it filled with leeches. Gordie faints after finding one in his underwear. After more hiking, the boys locate the body. The discovery traumatizes Gordie, who asks Chris why Denny had to die and cries about his father hating him. Chris comforts Gordie and asserts that his father simply does not know him.Pg 38-The appearance of a little boy, dressed in a yellow raincoat, playing in puddles, reminds me of Georgie Denbrough from ‘It’ King's classic story, adapted into the movie Stand By Me, now available for the first time from Hodder in standalone form, as part of their exciting Stephen King reissue programme for 2021.
