About this deal

The Model One has a custom-built system for monitoring its own performance, so it won’t overheat and will optimize its function to be efficient and safe. However, there is no associated smartphone app, as there is for some of Unagi’s competitors. While this means that you may not have precise information about your scooter’s performance, it does offer you a simpler user experience. Weight & Load

Ready to take on the Tesla of electric scooters? Unagi, the brand behind this year’s it scooter, is the brainchild of former Beats Music CEO David Hyman—and you can completely see the unmistakable dedication to both aesthetics and performance Hyman has previously brought to the table. The Unagi Model One is futuristic, sleek, and made from high-quality materials. We loved how its components—crafted from aluminum and magnesium carbon fiber—felt durable yet lightweight. You won’t even see the usual brake levers or large bell here; just another thumb control that's similar to the throttle and a button above that for the horn. The brake and the throttle controls sit on either side of the dash for a more balanced look. The light on the charger turns from green to red when it’s fully charged, but there’s no indication of charging progress on the handlebar display itself. From empty, the scooter’s 3200mAh LG battery takes about five hours to charge. Unagi claims the batteries last for several years even with daily usage, and the Pure Scooter warranty covers it for two years or 500 complete charge cycles.Mode one is suitable for beginner riders, or eco riding to maximize battery performance, with a top speed of 9 mph. Here, there is a gentle acceleration curve that enables you to feel in control. As a result, riding the Unagi Model One Voyager on anything other than nicely-paved roads will give you a headache. If you were to ride this e-scooter in Singapore or Switzerland, both of which have top-notch road quality, then you’d have the smoothest rides. Unfortunately, in many e-scooter-friendly cities like Los Angeles, it’s not the most ideal. And I’m not exaggerating about the headache – I rode this thing around my neighborhood and I got a migraine after 10 minutes of riding. Mode two is ideal for daily riding or commuting and has a top speed of 12 mph. Its balanced throttle means you can keep the scooter at a steady pace. Acceleration? Fuggetaboutit! When one floors the Voyager’s throttle off the line, 1000W of peak power push you like a bat out of hell, leaving other bikes and scooters in the proverbial dust. Oh, and feel free to thank us when you’ve made it to the meeting on time. Ultimate portability

The front handlebars of the Unagi Model One e-scooter fold down cleanly over the blade—making this electric scooter easy to carry. It weighs 26.5 lb (12 kilograms). Command center As you go about your daily commute, it’s inevitable—almost a rite of passage: You’re going to get caught out in the rain.

The Incredible Handlebar

The Unagi Model One arrives assembled for the most part, although its handlebar needs to be attached using four supplied screws and an Allen key. The main thing to remember before doing this is to attach the cable inside the steerer tube to that inside the handlebar. Thanks to the connectors, this is as simple as attaching two pieces of Lego. On the handlebars, you'll find the simple console. A power button turns the scooter on and off. A thumb paddle on the left controls the brake; a thumb paddle on the right serves as the accelerator. There's also a small tab to toot the most annoying horn on the planet. The tinny, high-pitched electronic squeak sounds like the noise an iPhone would make if it had a "you're on fire" alert. Another small tab on the handlebars toggles between the ride modes: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Of course the flip side of that coin is that you’ll never get a flat tire due to the airless tire design. So if you mainly commute on fairly nice paths and bike lines, this may be a compromise that you’ll gladly make. The award-winning global electronics company, LG, provided the batteries for Unagi. It’s no surprise then that the batteries have been designed with a nod towards longevity and reliability and so replacing them should be of no concern, making the Model One a low-maintenance scooter. However, on smooth roads this scooter is actually a dream to ride. Super-smooth, in fact, which is the reason we’d really only recommend it if your usual every day route is on well-paved roads. Otherwise, it won't be an entirely comfortable experience.

Crucially, though, the Model One differentiates itself from both models in two significant ways. First, it has a 450W dual-motor arrangement, in comparison to Xiaomi and Ninebot-Segway’s 300W single rear-motor designs. Second, its lightweight materials make the Model One more than 3kg lighter than both its rivals. The batteries powering the Unagi Model One come from LG. As such, you can rest assured that they’re high quality. They’re durable, reliable, and built to be long-lasting. As a result, you can enjoy the fact that the Model One should require very little (or even zero) maintenance.

Physically, the Model One Voyager looks every bit like the Model One Classic, which is all well and good. No one needs to reinvent the wheel – unless, of course, the wheels just aren’t cutting it, which is the case here. It also inherits the Classic’s 7.5-inch solid tires, which to their credit, are puncture-proof due to their nature. We believe that portability is key when it comes to designing the perfect scooter. That's why we make it our primary objective with every scooter we create, and it's embedded in our core DNA. But it's not just about being lightweight; winning in portability means designing every detail with ease of use in mind. see latest price Our hands-on experience with the Unagi Model One E-Scooter Design, materials & build quality The E500 Unagi Model One feels zippier than any Unagi scooter yet. Its acceleration is spot-on; it can reach 15mph (24 kph) in 4.4 seconds. This makes it the fastest of any 26-lb (11.79 kg) scooter out there. The thumb throttle is positioned perfectly below your right thumb and has a rubberized action pad. It provides just the right amount of resistance — a bit on the stronger side — and also feels solid and well-constructed.
