About this deal

There’s just something about the feeling that you get when you’re able to make something on your own that’s every bit as good (or even better!) than what you can buy. The fact that I was able to tweak the design a little bit to customize the MK735 means that my DIY NAS gets to be a centerpiece and focal point in my office. It’s a pretty awesome feeling, and I hope lots of people get to experience that in printing their own MK735s. Key Specifications: Have you heard if Synology is aware they may be SCARING customers AWAY from having confidence in their equipment. And/or making them much, MUCH more expensive that QNAPS if you HAVE to put in ONLY Synology Drives. Fractal Design Node 804 ( specs): Is a bit larger but also supports Micro ATX motherboards, which opens up a whole new form factor of potential motherboards to consider. It has internal 8 x 3.5” HDD bays, 2 x 2.5” HDD bays, and it’s very price competitive, which makes it a very attractive option to consider. My reports – This case is not enjoyable for heat when thinking about NVME. My initial thoughts was that everything would be great. I had a proper cpu cooler and then also a heat sink for the nvme. Upon firing up everything looked great…..but then I got warnings. My NVME was getting to temps of almost 60c! Too many different bolt types for the exterior. One part has Phillips thumbscrews, another has small hex flat head bolts, another has Phillips truss head bolts, and still another uses the standard Phillips hex head case bolts. If those hex flat head bolts were Phillips instead, the whole case could be managed with a single Phillips screwdriver. And the truss head bolts could have just been standard case bolts.

Front Panel: 4x 2.5in/3.5in SATA Drive Caddies; Slimline Optical Drive Bay; 2x USB 2.0; 2x Power Switch; HDD & Power LEDs; Fan Filter Cover with thumbscrews.

Versatile 'cube' style case supporting 3x 3.5in HDDs or 4x 2.5in HDD/SSDs and various combinations in between. Suitable for all Mini-ITX motherboards. Constructed from a steel alloy frame with polymer front mesh panel.

But I had a problem: I couldn't get the Supermicro motherboard to boot off UEFI. I was getting errors about "CPU with APIC ID 0 is not enabled", and I spent an hour messing around in the BIOS before (temporarily) giving up and throwing in a SATA boot SSD. Create a comprehensive Surveillance solution, supporting multiple IP cameras and even arriving with some licences included QVR Pro is plenty good enough for me, don’t need QVR Elite, but it needs more horse than a TS-873; mine now runs well on a TVS-EC1080+. PCIe slot for adding the M2D17 m.2 SSD PCIe Card, the New M2D18 NVMe based SSD Cache Card or 10Gbe and 40GBe NIC card Power Supply: 1x Internal Universal Auto-Switching 110-240V 250W Flex ATX PSU with fan. UK Plugs provided as standard.A few of the things I modified in my TrueNAS storage pool configuration, based on Wendell's recommendations: Notes: Several cases have a combination of internal and external (i.e. removable) drive bays, allowing room for a separate boot drive. The Travla T2240 and T2241 chassis have 4 removable bays which can be allocated in any combination between 2 motherboards. CFI-A9859 Value NAS Chassis (2x External HDD, 1x Internal HDD, 1x Optical Bay) The video war really helpful though, will there also be a video regarding the setup (software side)? I’m still hesitant to build my own NAS mostly because I’m not sure how difficult it is to replicate various services offered by synology and qnap (like Synology Drive easily available on PC and Smartphones) and how secure it would be on something like TrueNAS and others PCI/PCI Express Cards: Full height cards supported, mounted over the motherboard. Please select PCI or PCI-Express riser(s) as required from the menu on the left.

Support upto 40 IP Cameras with the free enterprise-class surveillance software, with 4 free licences included This server build can be done with just as much capability (but a lower storage amount) on a more stringent budget, or can go 'all out' maxing out the RAM and SSD storage space. I'll show a price comparison of both (noting that my needs—tons of RAM and tons of SSD space—may not match your own, if the main goal is 'very fast SSD NAS'): Part All the NAS solutions listed can be accessed DIRECTLY via an ethernet/network cable being connected from your PC/Mac system, to the NAS RJ45 port for 100MB/s and higher connectivityMuch better hardware options than more compact 2-Bay NAS options, as well as the same or better than the 4-Bay Power supply: Internal 200 Watt AC Adapter with quiet 40mm Fan. UK power cord provided as standard. Power connectors: 1x 20/24pin ATX; 1x 12v P4; 2x Molex (to power the 4x drive bays). paired DDR4 memory of the same speed, capacity, and die type required for two or four DIMM configurations) Fractal Design Define R5 is a silent case for building a quiet PC for work or gaming.
