About this deal

Lay or stand your air-dry polymer clay projects on one of the surfaces listed above in an area with low humidity. Air-dry clay is slightly different than regular oven-baked polymer clay — it's got a fibrous texture and particular handling instructions. For the best results, keep the following tips in mind when crafting with air-dry polymer clay: The good news is that epoxy clay is quite solid when it dries, so it’s a good choice for jewelry, ornaments, and other objects that people handle. Depending on the brand, epoxy air-dry clay may be called waterproof because of the strength of the chemical bond, but it’s best to err on the side of caution and put plastic liners inside pottery used as a vase. What to Consider When Choosing the Best Air-Dry Clay

Air dry clay is not as messy as other types of clay, such as polymer clay. This makes it a good choice for children and adults who are not comfortable working with messy materials. Using a base varnish also leaves room for you to leave parts of the creation the lovely white/tan natural clay color instead of painting everything. If you use a high-quality craft paint and let it dry/cube completely, it will be a very durable finish. Use your fingertips to press all the clay into the mold, covering the entire cut out design. STEP 3: SCRAPE OFF EXCESS CLAY To top it all off, I used some beautiful French blue chiffon ribbon for my terracotta clay ornaments, and some sweet taupe velvet ribbon for my white ornaments. Dry time on the clay varies depending on the size of the piece and the humidity of the environment. Most pieces will be safe to handle carefully within a day but should be allowed to dry at least 24-48 hours before painting or sealing. Actual time to completely dry may take several weeks, and the clay becomes stronger with time. When clay is dry

If you’re inpatient like every kid is (and like most adults, myself included),you may be wondering how to make air dry clay dry faster. First, be mindful of the conditions in the room you’re in. If it’s a wet environment, it’s going to take longer. Plan to work on a nonporous, well-cleaned and smooth surface. We recommend a metal sheet, ceramic tile, index cards, aluminum foil or the Sculpey ® Oven-Safe Work Mat.

Depending on the size of the decorative objects we recommend using white school glue, Crazy Glue or Gorilla Glue to adhere objects like stones, beads, glitter, moss, etc. to thoroughly dry Air-Dry Clay pieces. After your creations are completely dry, it’s time to seal them! Clay is porous, the air dry clay will become pliable again if exposed to water or moisture. Sealing the clay will prevent this from occurring. Is air dry clay waterproof? With a smooth texture that’s easy to knead and shape, Jovi’s Air Dry Modeling Clay is a high-quality, affordable choice for crafting. What’s more, the odorless, nontoxic modeling clay is made of natural ingredients, free of allergens and gluten (a consideration for those with sensitivities), and Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA)–certified. The first step is to create your designs. We did a few pinch pots (super easy for the little ones to get started with), a handprint ornament for my parents, a couple smaller pots, and some balls and “dinosaur eggs” R made. Terracotta is all the rage right now, and I had the idea to make terracotta Christmas ornaments! Let me show you the step by step instructions on how to make air dry clay ornaments with terracotta and white clay. They turn out unbelievably beautiful!

However, with time I have switched over to using either Sculpey white Air Dry clay or Das White Air Dry Clay. I think for the type of projects I typically do; home decor type projects, these are superior quality brands.

At Sculpey ®, we love air-dry model clay because it's easy to work with and dries on its own without baking. Our formula is lightweight and smooth with a fibrous composition that makes it perfect for little hands that aren't as strong yet. Because it's able to dry on its own, you can use it to craft even when you don't have access to an oven, like in a classroom or daycare setting.Use a combination of multimedia materials, crafting tools and your hands to mold air-dry clay into the design or shape you desire. So that leaves us with acrylic paint that has a sealer built into it and an aerosol acrylic sealer. Much like I do for terracotta clay pots, I like using both. Personally…I do not trust the long-term durability of acrylic paints with sealer built in. I have seen them chip too many times. Remember, the sky's the limit — create unique textures and patterns and incorporate mixed media elements where you see fit! I love Sculpey and Das because they both dry a little more clean and are a purer white color. As opposed to the Crayola air dry clay which dries a light gray/white color. We made a few different things: pinch pots, clay pots, handprint ornaments, and a few other things. To make the clay pots, I used a small plastic cache pot to roll along rolled-out clay. This told me where to cut and worked pretty well!
