About this deal

PS – since completing this write-up my filter arrived and I have taken some shots with the 16-55 – watch this space because there will be another blog coming soon. I will discuss how this lens fits in with my 55-200, 18-135 and 35mm F2 – and which lens is destined for ‘fleabay’)!! Anyway, the 55-200mm stabilizer works so well that all my hand-held shots are sharp at 1/8 second at 200mm, and most are usable at 1/4 second. I'm unsure if everyone will do this well, it helps if you know how hold and shoot a rifle, and if you can, I can get sharp flowing water shots at long shutter speeds. A very slight amount of pincushion distortion is present throughout the zoom range. With only 0.2% pincushion distortion, this shouldn't be noticeable in normal picture taking. If absolutely straight lines are necessary, the distortion is quite simple to correct in image editing software afterwards as the distortion pattern is uniform across the frame.

But despite this, the XF55-200mm is a great telephoto zoom for most users - and decent value for money too. This combination would provide a complete shooting kit to cover a broad range of focal distances and genres. It feels great to have a mostly metal lens in my hands. All the other brands of 55-200mm are all plastic.

Flare isn't much of an issue with this lens and contrast is retained well when shooting into the light, with or without a hood attached. Please note that vignetting compensation is also a lossy procedure because it increases the corner (sensor-)noise. For my landscape work, I use the 16-55 lens the most often. That focal range is simply the most useful for the scenes I normally shoot. It allows me to go wide angle and provides enough zoom to get closer to subjects. Landscape photography is more than wide angle shots though. Telephoto lenses can also be used very effectively to get landscape shots. Especially in the mountains. Currently Untitled – This image was shot this past Saturday and it is one of my new favorites. I shot this at the wide end of the XF55-200’s capabilities, along with my XT2. The Fujinon XF 55-200mm F3.5-4.8 R LM OIS is the first telephoto zoom for Fujifilm's X system cameras, and offers an 83-300mm equivalent angle of view. It has built-in optical image stabilization with 4.5 stops claimed benefit, and uses linear stepper motors for silent autofocus. The lens features an (unmarked) aperture control ring, and offers high quality all-metal barrel construction.

Fujifilm X Mount Lenses and Fujifilm Camera Bodies both scream high quality - The 55-200mm has this continued quality. The AF+MF switch on the lens enables seamless manual focusing. Half depress the shutter to autofocus on the subject and then fine adjustments can then be made using the manual focus ring. A Linear Motor For Fast and Quiet Autofocus If you are a Fujifilm shooter in the market for a zoom lens, then the Fujifilm XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 would be an ideal place to start and finish.

What's in the box?

Chromatic aberrations are very well controlled for a telephoto zoom lens with fringing only just exceeding half a pixel width towards the edges of the frame at 200mm and maximum aperture. This low level of fringing should pose few issues as it will be barely visible, even in large prints, or harsh crops from near the edges of the frame. In fact, when holding the lens on its own, the body feels solid and hefty thanks to its relatively short barrel length and entire metal build. Reminiscent”– This image was taken during my very first outing with the 55-200. I absolutely love the color rendition and how it captured the beads of water as interesting out of focus bokeh balls. This is the image I think of when I’m out shooting foggy sunrises. How to read our charts Chromatic aberration is the lens' inability to focus on the sensor or film all colours of visible light at the same point. Severe chromatic aberration gives a noticeable fringing or a halo effect around sharp edges within the picture. It can be cured in software.
