About this deal

Stairs are a downfall for the Henry XL Plus. Despite the long power cable, the hose isn’t long enough for a whole flight of stairs and it’s too bulky to balance on a step. It’s also heavy to carry up the stairs, although there is a carry handle to make this task easier. The Numatic Henry XL Plus cylinder vacuum is designed for DIY and tough home jobs. With a whopping 15-litre dust capacity and 12.5m cable, everything about this vacuum cleaner is super-sized. Henry Allergy comes with a British Allergy Foundation Seal of Approval with the manufacturer noting that ‘Henry Allergy is scientifically proven to reduce exposure to dust and pet-related allergens’. When shopping for a small home you have less mess – but less storage space. For this we suggest the Henry Micro, which will do a great job while fitting snugly into small spaces. What’s a Numatic Henry? Over the years we’ve seen his family grow rapidly. We’ve since been introduced to Hetty, Charles, George and James, among others. They specialise in all sorts of jobs whether it’s clearing up troublesome pet hair or devouring spilled liquids.

Hetty smiles just as much as Henry, and in terms of performance is just as able. Hetty has a highly efficient motor, a 10 metre cable and rewind storage system, and comes with a host of useful accessories. The Henry range have tremendous amounts of colour to them – but only one (very distinctive) style. If it has that big happy face, if the nose is the vacuum hose, and if it perpetually, moronically, and frustratingly never stops grinning? It’s a Henry.

Confused by the friendly-looking vacuum range? Here’s how to tell one family member from another

Hard Floor Tool - The Hard Floor Tool’s special design (featuring fine bristles to the front and rear) delivers peak suction performance on all types of hard floor — laminate, tiles, vinyl and wood. An additional versatility with the Henry range are the bags. You can use the same set of bags throughout the majority of their machines. The wet and dry, the pet hair, and the larger models all use a one-size-fits-all-capacities bag. It makes it easier to shop. Durability & Reliability At 7.5kg the Henry hoover is quite a chunky model. You won’t notice this too much as you move around on hard floors or low pile carpets for example as it will be easy enough to move it on its wheels. Even on higher pile carpets though it will take a bit more effort to pull it around as you vacuum.

The aptly named Charles vacuum cleaner takes us to a new level in weight class within the Henry range weighing in at a whopping 9kg. The Harry is the best in the range for cleaning up pet hair. It comes with a special brush attachment meant to lift hair and an activated charcoal filter which will draw out dirt and neutralize foul smelling pet pongs. Where do Henry Vacuums come from? Henry comes with a hard floor setting which tailors the height of the brush on the floor head to suit hard floors. Henry does an excellent job of reaching dust and dirt on hard floors and you can always tell when it’s been through a round. The Henry XL Plus weighs in at 10kg, 25% heavier than the original Henry but with nearly 3 times the cleaning capacity at, 15 litres. But just because it is lighter doesn’t mean it doesn’t carry a big load as James has an 8-litre dust bin capacity a full 2 litres more than Henry. This is a great combination – lightweight design but bigger capacity than some of the others in the Henry range. When it comes to battery life, the Henry HVB is equipped with two batteries that have 30 minutes of charge respectively. Sarah found that those 60 minutes of cleaning time were more than enough for dealing with all of the messes her home threw at her.

It’s worth noting that the XL Plus has the same 620w motor as other cleaners in the Henry range. Despite the vacuum being plus-size, however, this power is more sufficient for nearly all cleaning tasks. The 3 stage HEPA filtration system is designed to help provide relief from pet allergies and reduce exposure to potentially harmful allergens present in the home. Another significant advantage the Charles hoover has over many of its peers is it’s 1060w motor, 70% more powerful than the original Henry and the other lighter models we’ve looked so far on the list. There are plenty of examples such as this where the two brands offer brilliant features in different areas. The Henry Allergy offers the same 6 litre capacity as the Henry HVR160 and is also the exact same size.

FAQ’s about the Henry Vacuum Range

We think the Henry XL Plus is a choice to consider if you need a powerful, durable, and large vacuum for big cleaning jobs. This isn’t a vacuum for whipping around the home before guests arrive, nor is it the most effective for cleaning carpets, but for tough tasks, it provides a lot of value. Charles also has a very distinct feature within the Henry range as it can operate as either a dry vacuum or wet vacuum meaning it’s perfect for tougher assignments like DIY.

Still, the various accessories do come in useful. The narrow AiroBrush 140 is a suitable size for steps and offers effective cleaning power with the rotating brush bar. This tool can make a high-pitched squealing sound at times, however, which is somewhat off-putting! Pet Hair Having a huge capacity comes with an obvious downside: weight. At 10kg, it’s one of the heaviest home vacuums we’ve reviewed. To put it in context, this is more than twice the 4.6kg of the Duronic VC7020 and the 4.9kg of the Miele Compact C2 Cat and Dog. In our own experience, we’ve found that Henry’s 7.5kg is quite fine so long as you do not need to move across several flights of stairs in your home. Whilst it is not the heaviest vacuum cleaner out there or even within the Henry range, it can still present a challenge with the bag full if you are not accustomed to lifting. In Britain the Hoover became synonymous with the word vacuum cleaner. Around about the same time as this was happening (the mid-80’s) was when Henry vacuum cleaners were first making a rise. We will forever have the Henry as a result. What’s the best Henry for dog and cat hair? Despite performance and features, price will always be a significant factor in choosing an appliance and vacuum cleaners are no different.Yes, certain models are able to clean things like your drains, standing water, or any spillages in the kitchen or bathroom. The Charles and the George are both made to be wet and dry vacuum cleaners. While the George also cleans carpets and upholstery, the Charles is able to sook up spillage without exploding. I have allergies. Do Henry have a vacuum cleaner I can use? Shark also does a great job on hard floors with a dedicated hard floor setting being common on upright models as we’ve seen with our Shark NZ690UKT. Once you’ve been through your hard floor with Shark vacuum it’s quite easy to tell as your floors will look far neater for it.
