I DEEPLY enjoyed this heartbreaking volume! Miyo's story is compelling right from the start and only goes to rip your heart out with the abuse she has endured at the hands of her family. My heart felt so broken for her in the worthlessness that she feels and really believes she has no value throughout the course of this volume. Miyo Saimori has had a hard life. Ce premier tome se termine sur un extrait du roman et relate un pan du passé de Miyo que j’ai trouvé plutôt bienvenue. Can't say if I was or not because this is definitely as crushing as I remember, but is still such a fantastic first volume (despite that teared up quite a few times when reading Miyo's internal monologue/thoughts) and SO thankful for Kudo and Yurie who are pouring life into this young woman.First of all, as someone who also has self hatred since I am a child and longer than her (Because I am older than her), I will say that the way this manga portray self hatred is really realistic. Her inner thought is exactly my thought on daily basis. The way she always think in negative way even if someone say something normal, the way she is easily influenced when someone begin to say even a bit of negative thing, the way she always apologize even if she doesn't need to, it's just same as me. Miyo reacted to everything with fresh wonder, which made her fascinating to watch. In fact, Kiyoka was enjoying her company so much more than he expected. He even considered making a habit of spending his days off like this. Even so, a majority of screen time will likely focus on Miyo and Kiyoka. Interested readers can expect early issues to focus on the two learning who each other really is, with preconceived notions clearly being a major part of the series. Similarly, conflict will likely arise from rumors and discovered truths concerning each other’s past.

I am just going to say I need volume four now! I love this series so so much. It’s got great characters, interesting story arcs, and an intriguing ongoing plot. I know there are also light novels out for this series but I have not yet tried them. I loved getting to meet more of Kiyoka’s family in this volume and I can not wait to see even more of his sister in the coming volumes. I highly recommend this series! The supernatural aspects were interesting for sure, and I’m sure will be developed in the future, with the upcoming OVA or perhaps in future instalments of this series if it ever happens, but I felt it somewhat took away from the more grounded relationship with Miyo and Kiyoka. The supernatural parts do give the series more flare and pizzazz, but I question whether all of it was necessary, as especially in the second half, where I felt the lore and the presence of Grotesqueries, besides being haphazardly implemented at points, also limited the time that could have otherwise been spent on developing the romance aspects a bit better, as well as Miyo’s character. His lips and his voice quivered. What was this strange feeling? Was it wonder? Excitement? Delight? Or all of that at once?
