About this deal

A 2014 Radio Interview With Frans Weisz has the director speaking for eight minutes about the producers and cast members that he worked with on the movie, the premise of the film, how he feels about the movie, his initial thoughts on the screenplay and thoughts on some of the other films that he's made over the course of his career. Based on a comedic thriller by author Rinus Ferdinandusse (who co-wrote the screenplay wiht Rob du Mee and who has a small role in the film), Naked Over The Fence benefits from a really strong score from composer Ruud Bos. This adds quite a bit to the film's attempts at humor and suspense and brings the production values up a fair bit. The movie is also nicely shot, using the Amsterdam locations quite well, particularly in the finale when we're treated to an unexpected but fairly effective tram chase. Except it isn’t. Penny befriends a sexy chanteuse named Lilly Marischka (a pre-Emmanuelle Sylvia Kristel, looking weirdly cute with her short, dyed blonde hair), who winds up getting involved with a mutual friend named Ed Swaan (Jon Bluming), a karate teacher. Ed gets hired to act in an ‘art film’ and brings Lilly, who he is involved with, along for the ride. Of course, neither one of them really realizes what sort of ‘art film’ they’re to be performing in and they soon find themselves tangled up in the Dutch porno movie scene.

Rounding out the extras is a gallery of promotional images, a Sylvia Kristel film trailer section (containing trailers for Naked Over The Fence, Frank & Eva, Julia, Pastorale 1943, Mysteries and Playing With Fire), menus and chapter selection options.Naked Over the Fence is definitely worth seeing as a curiousity as it has a very young Kristel singing in English and just being charming. I also really liked the sarcastic way that Rijk de Gooyer played his character; he was also in Herzog’s Nosferatu the Vampyre.”– Bandsaboutmovies It took me nearly thirty minutes to realize what Frans Weisz was trying to accomplish with his film Naked Over the Fence. Its idiosyncratic sense of humor confused me a bit because it made certain developments, which I will mention below, difficult to immediately place in a proper context. It was clear to me that Weisz had not conceived Naked Over the Fence to function as a straightforward comedy, but I was unsure what the purpose of the colorful mayhem at the center of it was. Then suddenly everything made perfect sense to me. Behind the Scenes with Sylvia Kristel - during the shooting of Naked Over the Fence, producer Rob de Mee hired a crew to document the process on 16mm film, resulting in two hours of raw footage, never edited, including these fifteen minutes of content with Sylvia Kristel rehearsing her music scene. (15 min). I’ve been fortunate enough to review several films now starring sexploitation icon Sylvia Kristel who many may know from her iconic role as Emmanuelle and its sequels. Many of those films were released by Cult Epics on blu in a solid box set. The set was a lot of fun with most of them being damn good films that really surprised me.

Featuring “Get It Now”, “Model Session”, “Naked Plus”, the single “Hey A Letter Came Today” by Dutch model and actress Sylvia Kristel (Emmanuelle) a.o. The B-Movie Orchestra + Interview With Composer Ruud Bos featurette, from 2015, runs for twelve minutes and sees Bos talking about his composing tactics and techniques, his working process, working with different directors and what else he's done outside of working on film music. From there we get a live performance with a full band. Coming just before Kristel would achieve worldwide fame as Emmanuelle – and subsequently retitled in some territories to cash in on that recognition, with one such title translating as “Emmanuelle Jumped Over the Fence.” – DVDcomparePresented in an aspect ratio of 1.37:1 encoded with MPEG-4 AVC and granted a 1080p transfer, Naked Over the Fence arrives on Blu-ray courtesy of Cult Epics. Promotional Gallery - a collection of promotional materials for Naked Over the Fence. Presented with music (2 min). Commentary - this exclusive new audio commentary was recorded by Frans Weisz biographer Harry Hosman. I listened to the commentary in its entirety and after I viewed Naked Over the Fence and found myself agreeing with virtually all of the comments Mr. Hosman made about the atmosphere and vitality of Amsterdam from the 1970s that are preserved in the film. Predictably, there are plenty of comments about the dilemmas each character faces throughout the film and Sylvia Kristel's performance in particular. Naked Over the Fenceis a consistently enjoyable and engaging film that is having quite a good time basking in its own unpredictability.A grown-up crowd-pleaser from an interesting country at a very particular dingier age, adventurous cinema fans should hop whatever fences necessary to snag Cult Epics’ fine release of Weisz’s well-directed thriller. The “Behind the Scenes” featurette is really just an assembly of on-set raw footage, but thankfully, it documents one of Ms. Kristel’s most prominent scenes in the film, her character’s singing television appearance. At one point, we see two women helping her with some sort of terrible fingernail problem.Other well-sourced extras include an interview with director Frans Weisz from 2014, a music-centric 2015 piece called “B-Movie Orchestra + Interview with composer Ruud Bos”, a promotional gallery, and an assortment of Sylvia Kristel film trailers.
