READ NEXT: The best patio heaters to buy The best fire pits to buy in 2023 1. Harbour Housewares Cast Iron Fire Pit: Best traditional fire pit This one comes with a 5-foot hose smaller than the 10-foot hose provided in the other propane fire pit we reviewed in this review article. The auto-ignition feature makes it easy to ignite and the rubber comfort-grip ensures easy usability when lighting and increasing flame height. There’s no doubt that a portable fire pit is a great addition to any camping trip, but as you’ll have noticed reading this, there are a few important aspects to consider. The fire pit is super easy to put up and take down and with just five components, this can be one in under 60 seconds! This makes it perfect for campers on the go. The materials are rust resistant and this is a fire pit that folds down to a very compact size making it easy to transport. While we tested several collapsible fire pits, the Fireside Outdoor Pop-up Fire Pit has standout features in addition to its ability to completely break down and fit into a compact rectangular bag. We were thoroughly impressed with the lightweight stainless steel material that has a sturdy base when it’s put together. Although it was slightly difficult to pop the steel mesh cover into the legs while assembling the fire pit, we still think it’s amazing how the legs, sides, and mesh cover come apart for stellar portability. When the fire pit is assembled, it boasts an incredibly sturdy design that can hold the weight of several burning logs. The fire pit does an excellent job of emitting heat from the top, bottom, and sides to keep your feet and body plenty warm. We also found that when you take apart the fire pit, there will be ash and soot on the base, so you should be prepared for some messiness on your hands. However, once the parts go into the carrying bag, you won’t have to worry about ash getting everywhere. It’s simple to assemble, if a little heavy – at 15kg it’s quite hefty but the strong metal handles do make it easier to transport or to tip for emptying the ash. Once set up makes for an attractive rustic garden focal point. Made of durable cast iron it should stand up to all weather conditions but you may wish to add a cover simply to avoid it filling with water between uses.

Firstly, it’s important to know that portable fire pits come in all different shapes, so there’s not really any constant “look” that you should be aiming for. Some are simply a mesh net on legs (such as product 2) whereas others are more complex, such as 3 and 4. So, don’t feel intimidated when you look at fire pits online and none of them looks similar-they do the same job! With this new modern technology comes bigger and more advanced items at our disposal, and that’s where portable camping fire pits come into play. The main difference with the ‘Trailblazer’ is it’s even more lightweight and portable than its big brother. It comes in at a total weight of just 3 lbs and has a surface area of 12″ x 12″. The downside is it holds less weight – don’t put more than 25lbs of firewood on this at any time. Key features: Traditionally styled fire pit with folding legs, solid construction, burns wood and charcoal for perfect BBQs. Overall, each of these fire pits is good at what it does and that’s why they made our list. However, each one is also a little different than the others, so depending on your needs, one may work better than you for the rest. Our favorite wood fueled fire pit is the Pop Up Fire Pit, its large burning surface and heat shield make it a great addition to any camping trip and it won’t leave scorch marks, or damage the grass.Although the Solo Stove Bonfire is heavier than most other portable fire pits the quality of the materials speaks for itself. We feel this is a well-built portable fire pit made with Japanese ingenuity. However, it comes at a premium price. If you have a large group or family to cater to you may even find that you’re better off having two smaller portable fire pits than one large one, especially if you are camping away from the car.
