About this deal

As a lens manufacturer, we will continue striving to meet the expectations of our customers with an expanded lineup of lenses and mounts for mirrorless cameras. Spherical aberration along with spherochromatism, or a change in the amount of spherical aberration with respect to color (looks quite similar to axial chromatic aberration but is hazier) are other common lens aberrations to observe. But now let’s compare it to the Sigma 23 in full-frame mode, and while some of the imaging circle remains visible as expected, it’s far less extreme than the Sony. Now to be fair, neither lens is designed to be used like this, but you can still see how the Sigma not only has a larger imaging circle, but one that remains respectably sharp well beyond the APSC frame size. Place the 33 1.4 on the left at f1.4, and the XF 35 f2 on the right at f2 and you’ll notice the latter has a softer subject but that its bokeh balls are actually bigger than you might expect, down to the magnification at close-range from focus breathing as I showed earlier. The shapes may be more elongated but arguably have slightly fainter patterns within. Certainly the rendering result from the 33 1.4 on the left isn’t the slam dunk I expected over its cheaper sibling. One fact to note is that this lens is equipped with dust and splash resistant sealing that helps to protect the lens from certain conditions. LEFT: Fuji X-E4 . Sigma 30mmF1.4 @30mm . f/1.4 . 1/140″ . Hi everyone! I just bought my first Fuji, the X-T5. I’m coming from the Canon M-series. I had the Sigma 16mm and 56mm for the Canon mount and loved them.

A 9-blade count diaphragm will create 18-point sunstars (diffraction spikes) from point light sources captured with a narrow aperture. This material is so high-quality that we’re also incorporating it into our Art and Sports lenses to provide lightness and thermal consistency." [Sigma] This was actually taken with the Leica CL, and came from my Sigma 30mm f1.4 L mount review (here). I put this in here because I wanted to at least show how this lens performs with fashion/portraiture. The settings were f1.4 and 100 ISO. Sigma claims that "The vast majority of contaminants work their way into lenses through the rear mount, so as long as they aren’t abused, these lenses will provide many years of trouble-free use, even in moderate weather.

No lens case is included in the box, but finding a case for a common lens form factor is not challenging. There is a slight vignetting at the wider apertures, which is to be expected, and this clears by the time you reach f/4. Incidentally, if you shoot JPEG, the in-camera corrections remove this completely at f/2.8. The image below shows the in-camera correction at f/2, which although still there, is very subtle. I found the sweet spot of the lens to be between f/5.6 and f/8, so I spent the majority of the time shooting there. Even at the smaller apertures, the lens performed admirably. As for the sun stars results, the shot taken at f8 produces much softer and less rounded results. On the other hand, it looks sharper at f16 and more detailed than f8. LEFT: Fuji X-E4 . It’s awesome to have a lens that feels like it will take lots of abuse and keep on creating great images. As for optics, the 30mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary performs great, and in my opinion, will produce images that are easily comparable to what Fujifilm has to offer. Sigma lenses have a good reputation for producing beautiful glass; this one is no exception. Typically, lenses are not as sharp at their wide-open apertures as they are when stopped down one or two stops, and at f/2, this lens is really sharp. In terms of weight, the 30mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary comes in at just 9.7 oz / 275 g, which makes it a great lens to carry around. It’s also never front heavy, when it’s mounted on my X-T3, which is what I used to test the 30mm f1.4. If you compare the 30mm f1.4 to the Fujifilm counterparts, it weighs a little more than the XF 35mm f1.4, which is 6.6 oz / 187 g. However, it’s lighter than the XF 33mm f1.4, which is 12.7 oz / 360 g, so this means the 30mm f1.4 is right in the middle, in terms of weight. The hood's interior is mold-ribbed for reduced internal reflections, and the LH586-01's semi-rigid plastic build absorbs some impact, adding a layer of physical protection to the camera and lens. The LH586-01 offers optimal protection to the front lens element, including protection from dust, water, fingers, limbs, etc., and from flare-inducing bright light. Apochromatic lenses have special lens elements (aspheric, extra-low dispersion etc) to minimize the problem, hence they usually cost more.
