About this deal

Armor-Piercing Question: When the leader of the White Dragon Clan is finally cornered by Ken, he asks him what drove him to this confrontation. Ken replies that despite any morally questionable actions he may have done on his way, he honestly wants to protect the good, helpless people because he understands their plight. The problem comes when the man then asks his daughter why she came to destroy his empire and kill him. In a twist of Diabolus ex Machina proportions, Yumin realizes she wants to take over the White Dragon Clan and blasts Ken out of the building. Art 10 - I genuinely do not believe words can define the magnificence of Boichi's art! The art is of the same caliber as Takehiko Inoue's Vagabond, Shin Ichi Sakamoto's Innocent, Tomo Takeuchi's Ballroom E Youkoso, or Kentaro Miura's Berserk. Body anatomy is superb, and the detail is unparalleled! Frankly I'm not sure if the author was tired of the series/actively disliked it and was trying to tank it or hired someone else to finish it or something, there is no excuse for that trash I just read. Miss Yoo was brutally gang-raped and sexually abused by the Garugi after she was kidnapped by them. A special little addition i feel that should be mentioned is Boichi's inclusion of how hard he has worked on the manga. He talks about his travels to take lots of different pictures to use as references. I feel that it is a great touch as it gives us, the readers, insight as to how a mangaka goes about working on their art. It's a real treat to see the pictures he takes and comparing them to what he draws. A wonderful aspect of the manga that most certainly should not be over looked.

Expy: Ken is Vash The Stampede as a mafioso, he even shares his idealism, it's an interesting case, as both Boichi and Yasuhiro Nightow are friends, and Boichi drew Trigun: The Lost Plant, a one shot set 6 years after the ending of the original manga. Even at the supposed emotional climax of the story, it still feels as if you hardly know or care about the characters at all. Becoming the Mask: After the Idol group arc, both Yumi and Ken's friend in the cram house both comment on how he's changed/become more serious. Noticeably, Ken is hardly ever drawn in his less detailed, more comedic version after.BAD BITS: It takes a while for the story and the tone to get set in stone but at around the 40 chapter mark everything feels more consistent and just better in general. At first I didn't like this, but there is a reason for it that you don't even realise until you're halfway through the story. Until that point though, the story can be a bit hit or miss and the tone can be quite inconsistent. My biggest problem however is the ecchi. I understand that Boichi drew hentai and I went in expecting some, but every 10 or 20 chapters Boichi will just feel horny and draw ecchi for a couple chapters. It feels earned maybe twice, but for the most part it can kill any enthusiasm with the current plot. high school delinquent as well as the main protagonist who leaves Japan in pursuit of his love, Yumin and drops out of school. While in Korea he lives his life as a shut in for a whole year being not able to locate a real occupation. After saving an old man from being killed by loan sharks, he was scouted and encouraged to join an area gang(gondal) to work under Taesoo as among his underlings. After fighting against Taesoo, he was offered the job of manager rather. He declined since he desired to join the police force alongside Yumin but Taesoo finally controls him into taking the position. His strength and awareness of justice earns him the devotion of the local community as well as his gang. Ken's parents were killed over the course of a Yakuza war when he was 13. The character design of Ken is greatly impacted from Vash of Trigun Manga. tldr: It can be really over the top with everything, mostly for the better except for the ecchi which (for me) is really uncomfortable with few exception.

The outset of the story isn't that bad. It's simple and could have acted a solid foundation for a pretty exciting story. It fails miserably when it comes to execution though, and because of the non-existent depth in character portrayal the story falls completely flat. The characters of the work, are very well made, each one has its purpose of life and depth and moral. All of them have their historic moment, making us worry about them in addition to He moved to Japan in 2004 and stepped into the world of Japanese manga with Space Chef Caisar published in the monthly Comic Gum. Since then he has published many manga and one-shots. STORY: Kitano Ken's crush Yoshizawa Yumin, moves to Korea to become a police officer. Following her, Ken moves to Korea as well. However, he is a failure. He meets Park Tae-Soo, leader of a local gang. Tae-Soo tries to convince Ken to become their boss. Ken agrees on something really ridiculous. (Salary what?). So basically, a failure rises from the bottom of scum to the top of the country. So, in my opinion, story is a 9/10. Food Porn: The author can go on complete tangents describing in incredible detail the food that the characters eat during the story. Describing the preparation of the ingredients, carefully detailing how it's all cooked while detailing how the various sauces and juices add to the taste and texture of the dish, finishing off by describing the delicious taste of the meal...a magnet, he has an almost supernatural aura of main character righteousness that he seemingly indoctrinates people into good morale by beating the shit out of them. Rather than this being deus ex however, its a plot device that is observed by other characters in the story. It also doesn't hurt that Ken is an extremely likeable character. He does not always win, and he does not always lose, he is not arrogant, but he respects himself and his gang and will beat the shit out of other gangs that challenge its pride of the street. As time goes on and his gang becomes more and more of an influence in Korea, Ken's character starts to change rather drastically as well. It's cool to read is the bottom line here. In 2005, he published Lovers in Winter. A compilation of 9 out of his 11 hentai oneshots serialized in the adult magazine Comic Aun. I've never seen any Japaneese work where the main location is South Korea. Boichi (the author) is from South Korea, so he had much experience with the environment. When I first saw the Genres, I was pretty confused with the Drama, Ecchi combo, I couldn't imagine this 2 genres can work alongside, and as I speculated, they couldn't. The only time when this could be alongside with themself, when Ken had sex. But apart from that, there was always a situation where one genre overpowered the other one in a scene. And thanks to the ecchi, the female characters are pretty shitty, they have 2D I may be harsh but it's hard to enjoy something when its main purpose entails creating different scenarios in which to draw women being abused sexually is as many ways possible, annnd good 'ol brawl. Especially when you're only there for one of the two (hint: it's the last one), and that one is executed poorly. Art Shift: The comedy sections almost seem like they come from a different manga when compared to the rest of the manga.

The art is exceptional! Easily, one of the most beautiful covers I've ever read is at the level of Takehiko Inoue and Sakamoto Shinichi. In fact, she shines in great fights very well choreographed and exciting, having several incredible fights. I would not say that it had the best story but it certainly provides and entertaining story. its about a girl who goes to Korea to become a cop and Ken who is a delinquent who follows her which I find a little bit weird but who cares. During his time in Korea ken becomes a boss of a gang I found this to be funny but serious a lot of the times. ART: If you've been involved with manga at all you probably already know how good the artwork is, especially when drawing people. Outside of the amazing character and landscape/cityscape drawings there are the fightscenes which can be hit or miss with the artwork. It feels like Boichi puts too much detail into them which can make them feel a bit stationary and stiff.

being very charismatic. But unfortunately the female characters do not have that same affection on the part of the author, only to be raped or to make scenes of fanservice having little depth, but at least Yumi having a good prominence in the end. It's basically so incredibly sexist that the escapism value disappears completely. There is no dignity for any female character in this story. None at all. Not even through the art quality.

Boichi「サンケン」ユミンのグルメマンガ、17巻と同時発売. Comic Natalie (in Japanese). Natasha, Inc. November 26, 2012. Archived from the original on July 19, 2023 . Retrieved July 18, 2023. Beauty Equals Goodness: Played straight with the corrupt and cruel politicians and gangsters. Interestingly, characters also become uglier when their personalities get nasty. The saddest character in the series is the female 'lead' Yumin. She has no personality to speak of. I think there is meant to be some tension regarding the protagonist struggle to hide his identity from her, but she's so bleak that you sometimes forget her existence. She is basically a blank canvas for the author to express his sad sexual fantasies and uniform kink (much like the entire series). Ever wanted to be a gang leader? Well, Ken Kitano never wanted to become one, but meh... he did. Let teh comedy ensue. Oh, Crap!: This goes through the mind of a lot of thugs when Ken finally gets serious or pissed, which ever happens first. It also happens when people end up out gambitted by Tae-Soo.Another factor is the plot, even though is not original it is still very addictive, the love story while not the main focus is also engaging enough and there are great comedic moments within it. Also, if you really look into it its got more depth than what you would expect. This sounds interesting isn't it? What can go wrong? Well, the story and the action part of this manga is pretty good. There are a lot of beatiful panels, and the story leading is also good. It can be always exciting. Almost the best thing in this manga is this is a seinen. The problem is the manga is trying to be very cool, and this has an impact of the action scenes, and some other more. The characters suddenly changes personality, and having unpredictable nature wich would be okay, if this would be once or twice in the whole series even without any racional explanation, but the writer do this every time. This is usually because the gang is just a status symbol. We just see how they raid buildings and after that we can read informations about the band's status, but we never see them. I didn't get what I expect to get. I thought this was gonna be an empire builder-like manga just like the overlord, but as I wrote before, the band is just a cover name for making a protagonist to symbolize a king of the underworld, whose to face you can only kneeling before him. Not gonna lie, these looks pretty awesome, but apart from that, this has no other function. It's like the One Piece crew, but the leader has more prestige... I already described Ken with enough detail to cover everything but not spoil anything. His buddies are all pretty much introduced from the first volume and as the story continues, everyone but Ken actually undergo some pretty serious character development. What about Ken you ask? Well he does indeed undergo a good chunk of character development but you see, his character is already defined from the get-go. He acts as the foundation upon which the others grow and mature. To be honest, having the main protagonist undergo the "least" actual character development (as in their personality, etc etc and not their position in society) was a ballsy move that really paid off. We get this wonderful balance between the cast of characters. No single individual within this fictional world overshadows another so greatly that their existence (for as long as they are relevant and play a major role in the story) becomes this tertiary obstacle that simply gets stepped on and ignored. Oh and this manga has one of my top 5 favorite female characters sooo... i am kinda biased here :D in Japanese). Shōnen Gahosha. Archived from the original on September 4, 2007 . Retrieved July 18, 2023. I have to say the personally this is one of my favourite manga's that I have read although sometimes I think they go over the top with ecchi.
