The story itself was complex as well. There were, in fact, a few parallel storylines going in the book, and, at times, I had trouble keeping them apart. There were really a lot of things going on compared to the shadow of a town that the place has become over the years. But, I guess, if you’re searching for trouble and poking the bee’s nest, you will definitely find it. In 2020, Baldacci launched his own podcast, “David Baldacci’s Power of Story,” where he interviews fellow authors and discusses the craft of writing. Something sinister is going on in Baronville. The rust belt town has seen four bizarre murders in the space of two weeks. Cryptic clues left at the scenes - obscure Bible verses, odd symbols - have the police stumped. What I loved most about The Fallen was not just the richly layered narrative, which contained plenty of tangents to keep the reader on their toes. Rather, I found The Fallen to be a fine ode to small town America. Baldacci uses The Fallen as a vehicle to highlight the issues at stake in small towns such as Baronville, which are dotted all across the US. With a downturn in manufacturing and production, resulting in significant job losses across these towns, the future is bleak. Many of these so-called ghost towns, provide the breeding grounds for unsavoury activities to spark. In Baronville’s case, the employment deficit has resulted in a huge rise in the drug trade. With the increase of the drug trade, the conditions prove fertile for other negative activities, such as murder and violence. Baldacci ties this in expertly within his novel and illuminates a country-wide problem very well within The Fallen.

As for the plot, Baronville is like so many other ghost towns in America where drugs like opioids have become a real issue taking the lives of so many. I love how Amos was able to connect the dots and find the culprits to these horrible crimes and bring justice to the small town of Baronville. Even though Amos is on vacation, he has to help solve the crimes and generally becomes a nuisance to the local PD which doesn’t want him too close to those murders. And the more he investigates, the stranger things he comes across. That small town has some serious secrets, and there are those people who would do everything to keep them from being revealed, even if it includes murder.of those kind of books so if you like these kind of mysteries I really think you will like it a lot.

His college life was the time in which he took part in various short stories and many screenplays which derived his interest in the writing stories field! After all that Amos has been through, he badly needed a break. So he let himself get convinced that a vacation is exactly what he should take. Thus his trip to the tiny and rather decrepit town of Baronville, where Alex, his journalist friend, has some family. I liked how weird this case is, how they slowly had to unravel it to find out the motive for the killing. Did I see the ending coming? Partly to be honest. I was not totally surprised by the twist towards the end when we learn just how everything is connected. Sometimes, the answer is in front of your eyes all the time and I have read so many thrillers that I felt it was quite obvious who the person behind it all was. That doesn't mean that I did not enjoy reading the book, but some twist were just a bit too obvious... Soon after they arrive, one night Amos is out on the terrace when he sees and hears something strange. Now, this is why reading the previous books is so important because you’ll learn about his particular sharp senses and will understand what is going on much easier.And the dead woman is identified as Anne Berkshire, a substitute teacher at a Catholic school and a volunteer for a local hospice. His former FBI colleagues, Alex Jamison, Ross Bogart, and Todd Milligan, are once again brought together to solve this horrible crime. Reading about people with photographic memories has always fascinated me. This one was no exception. Hooked to the characters, the writer simply made it impossible to trust any of them. Anyone could have been the criminal, sitting and chatting next to you. Yet, you could never know what they were plotting. The Fallen, the latest novel from international bestselling author David Baldacci, was one exhilarating thriller that kept me completely engaged for the entire novel. It is my first outing with Mr Baldacci. I’m not sure why it has taken me until now to experience his writing and enjoy his books. Anyhow, I hope to rectify my gap in Baldacci’s works and The Fallen was a great start.With his football career irreversibly over, he had gone on to become a cop and then a homicide detective in his hometown of Burlington, Ohio. He had been married to a wonderful, lovely woman named Cassandra, or Cassie as he always called her, and they had had a beautiful child named Molly. This book is fast paced and highly unpredictable. With in the first five minutes of starting this book the story takes off and there is a head long rush until it comes to the end. In The Fallen, everything was much more personal for Alex. She was trying to protect her family from harm while helping Amos solve the crimes. Amos also had some questions about his own memory and what could happen to his abilities in the future. Amos' behavior could still be odd at times but he was able to forge a connection with Zoe, Alex's niece.
