About this deal

Step 1 - Clean the Area: Before starting your Defender® Ridge Spikes installation you need to make sure that the apex ridge tiles are clean and free from moss, lichen, bird droppings and any dust or debris. This is to make sure that the silicone has a clean surface to adhere to. Marine Grade Stainless Steel is now offered as an alternative to 304 Stainless Steel. It is particularly resistant to corrosion caused by sodium chloride. This makes it the ideal choice for use in harsh coastal areas. Add extra rows behind the first if needed. Leave as small a gap as possible between the rows; the pins should be almost touching to prevent the pigeons or seagulls from gaining access. Leave no gap bigger than 2.5 cm anywhere to prevent a pigeon or seagull from gaining a foothold. Next, you need to measure the width and depth of the area that needs protecting with a tape measure. Choose the most appropriate size Defender® Bird Spike bearing in mind that any area greater than 2.5 cm should be proofed. If you are ever unsure – call us on 01626 835055, and we can help advise on what products you may need. Step 5 - Full Protection: Repeat the process until the area is fully protected. Each strip of the Thistle® Spike is 333 mm long and can be snapped by hand into shorter lengths. Along the base are grooves where the spike can be snapped by hand. This is useful when installing on undulating, curved or uneven surfaces. Every effort should be made to protect the whole area, and no gaps should be left between additional rows.

Due to the nature of bird control issues, the areas needing to be proofed will often be high up on your property and hard to access. If you intend to do the bird-proofing yourself, you must be confident using ladders and working at height. If you cannot do the work yourself, please get in touch with a roofer, pest control company or handyman to assist you. Jones and Son Pest Control Supplies Ltd is a family-run business from Devon in the UK. All our Defender® Plastic Pigeon Spike Products are manufactured from high-quality Durolon UV Stabilised Polycarbonate plastic in a small town on Dartmoor. This ensures that we can oversee every aspect of the production process, from designing, patenting, manufacturing and distribution therefore each individual pigeon spike Jones & Son sends out meets our exacting standards. The Defender® Narrow Plastic Bird Spike is a great solution for stopping pigeons from landing on any area with a depth of up to 7.5 cm (3 inches). Most commonly these are narrow walls, fences, pergolas, sills, ledges, balcony railings, and even around the top of trampolines and swings. The 8 mm wide base can easily be fixed to most surfaces using our Defender® Fixing Silicone Adhesive Glue or small screws or even cable ties. If the ledge width is 7.5 cm or more, simply attach a second row of spikes leaving as small a gap as possible between the tops of the pins. Alternatively, you may prefer to use one row of our Defender® Wide Plastic Pigeon Spikes that will protect ledges up to 15 cm (6 inches) and is ideal if the area is used for overnight nesting or roosting. How do plastic bird spikes work? All Defender® Bird and Pigeon Spikes are made in the UK using only the highest quality materials. Jones and Son Pest Control Supplies Ltd is a family-run business that prides itself on the manufacture of quality steel bird spikes and plastic pigeon spikes that will keep birds off your property, business or home.Another method is to use cable ties. Again make sure you have the correct length spike for the individual bar. Hold the strip in place above the bar and wrap the cable tie around the base and the bar. Feed the end through the fastener and pull tight until the spike base is held in place securely. One cable tie at each end should be sufficient. The ends of the cable tie can be cut short to neaten the appearance or left long.

First, spray the area with a disinfectant to soften and loosen dried droppings. If using Germ Clear™, leave to soak for a minimum of 5 minutes. Then use the scraper to remove the excess droppings or nesting debris into the bin bag; repeat this process several times. When all the loose debris is removed, including moss, lichen, dirt and dust, use the stiff brush, sponge and soapy water to remove any remaining residue until completely clean. Once completed, the cleaned areas must be left to dry for a minimum of 24 hours before installation.

How to install Defender® Seagull Spikes

As the manufacturer of Defender® Bird Spikes, Jones and Son Pest Control Supplies Ltd, we keep a close eye on the quality of the bird control products we produce. All our pigeon control products are made from high-quality materials such as Durolon; a UV Stabilised Polycarbonate, and 304 Grade Stainless Steel for the pins, which makes for an incredibly reliable bird control solution. Due to the high-quality materials, the reliable staff who assemble our bird spikes and the incredible knowledge of our sales team, we can confidently offer warranties on all our Defender® bird and pigeon control products. Defender® Plastic Pigeon Spikes come with a 15-Year Warranty when installed in the UK. The whole strip is moulded in one piece from Durolon UV Stabilised Polycarbonate; this ensures they will not become brittle in direct sunlight. They are a cost-effective, long-lasting pigeon control spike. The pins of our Defender® Stainless Steel Bird Spikes are made from 304 Grade Stainless Steel which protrude from a super tough polycarbonate base. These heavy-duty bird spikes come with a 25-Year "No Rust" Warranty when installed in the UK. These bird spikes can withstand the heaviest bird infestations and the most demanding environments. Step 4 - Positioning: The outside pin should slightly overlap the outer edge of the ledge so stopping pigeons and birds from being able to land or gain a foothold. Most fences and pergola beams are between 2.5 cm – 5 cm in width, so position the spike in the centre. The 8 mm narrow plastic base is flexible along the length and this means it can be fitted along a curved surface, such as an ornate fence or trellis if required. It may need additional screws or cable ties to hold it in position on the curve. The Defender® Seagull Deterrent Spike can be installed by anyone who has a small amount of DIY knowledge and safe access to the area that needs protection.
