And Leatherman has just recently upgraded their most popular model, the Wave, to the Wave+ and included replaceable wire cutters. The Truss is supposed to be a “professional grade” multi-tool so not having replaceable wire cutters is an oversight in my opinion. If there’s a connection here, maybe Gerber can make it more clear because it seems rather arbitrary. Again, these are personal complaints and you may disagree. The Suspension always had a pretty poorly formed wood-saw. The Truss has a notably longer, more aggressive, and much better-formed wood saw. For Nair’s damage indicator, bridge damage detection could be achieved by performing Mahalanobis–Taguchi system on Nair’s damage indicators of most sets of measurement points. As a damage indicator, Nair’s damage indicator was superior to the modal parameters. Three main advantages were observed: it does not require any subjective decision in calculating Nair’s damage indicator, thus potential human errors can be prevented and an automatic detection task can be achieved; its statistical pattern has high sensitivity to damage and, finally, it is flexible regarding the choice of sets of measurement points. Increasingly, I find that I need hex, Torx or Posi drive bits for the MacGyver jobs I’m doing. But the Truss doesn’t have a hex bit driver. Again, this is personal preference and your needs could be different. The Truss and Suspension add functions while reducing weight from Gerber’s ‘best-selling’ predecessor.

The Style PS is a great little tool designed for frequent travelers and those who often find themselves in secured buildings. It doesn’t have any blade on it at all, just a small pair of scissors, tweezers, and a nail file. Compared to the Gerber Dime it has a lot less functionality but is still an excellent specialized tool. I like that the Truss has both a separate straight edge blade and a serrated blade. It’s good to have both rather than a combo half/half blade and both are 2.25 inches long (5.7 cms). That’s OK but for a full-size multi-tool isn’t very long. Gerber’s own Center Drive has a 3 inch (7.5 cm) blade as a comparison.

Read More We like the design of the OHT better, but overall think the Center Drive is more useful to the average person. If Leatherman released a multi tool with the OHT’s design but a more generalist set of tools we’d have to reevaluate. Out of all of the multitools on this list, none of them come close to this one in terms of getting the feel of having actual tools in your hands. The fact that the knife blade and bit driver are so long and sturdy makes this feel amazing when you go to use it. The build quality of the rest of the product is no slouch either.

Truss and Suspension Phillips driver. The Truss has a fully-formed Phillips driver. A much welcomed addition! Gerber clearly wanted to make the MP600 a tool anyone could use, but we feel they made some significant compromises to do so. The tools themselves have well, interesting, designs. There is also no version that comes standard with a removable bit driver. You have to buy aftermarket accessories for that. Don’t get us wrong though, the MP600 is a well made multi tool with a lot to like about it.
