About this deal

In recent years, university researchers have provided the scientific evidence for the medicinal properties of mastic. So what makes Samali different from any other cake? It boils down to three things. Firstly its the Mastic! Mastic is a resin obtained by the Mastic Tree which can only be found in Chios island. You may also hear people calling it ‘tear drops’ as it is found on the bark of the Mastic tree often forming tear drops. What is mastic used for? Wikipedia articles incorporating a citation from the 1911 Encyclopaedia Britannica with Wikisource reference Mash the limes, basil, and sugar together in a strong highball glass. Pour over the mastic and add the ice. To taste, add soda water and mix well. Mix the melted marshmallows until smooth and, adding small amounts of sugar-starch mixture, knead the mastic like dough.Wrap a smooth ball of mastic with cling film so that it does not wind, and allow it to lie down for at least an hour. After that, it is completely ready for use.

To color the mastic with gel food coloring, you need to break off a piece of white mastic, drip a few drops of the dye on it and knead well. The color will be evenly distributed and the mass will be painted. A more intense color may require more dye. For most Greek people, the taste and flavors of mastic are very familiar and remind them of their childhood. Mastic is used as a spice on the Eastern Mediterranean island of Chios. It’s widely used in baking and cooking, giving dishes like brioches, ice cream, and other sweets a distinct flavor. Mastic is most recognized for its usage in Arabian cuisine, but it is also becoming popular in Japanese cuisine.Obtain some mastic tears (tiny bits). Place it in the freezer for several hours. Blend a tiny portion of the frozen mixture while it is still frozen. Use a moderate speed and don’t overdo it since the mastic will cling to the blender if it becomes too heated. What exactly is a mastic? Samali (Mastic flavoured Semolina Cake) is a traditional Greek dessert infused with Mastiha, a resin originating from the Mastic Tree in Chios and soaked in delicious syrup! So how to make your Samali the traditional way? I have included my very own decades old recipe that has never failed me. Mastic is used in some varnishes. Mastic varnish was used to protect and preserve photographic negatives. [12] Mastic is also used in perfumes, cosmetics, soap, body oils, and body lotion. In ancient Egypt, mastic was used in embalming. In its hardened form, mastic can be used, like frankincense or Boswellia resin, to produce incense. Mastiha is, indeed, one of the most seductive spices in the Mediterranean. It is faintly reminiscent of pine and has a deep, almost musky aroma. It is definitely Greece’s most exotic spice. Cooking with Mastic

The production of mastic was threatened by the Chios forest fire that destroyed some mastic groves in August 2012. Put marshmallows, butter in a deep bowl and pour milk (lemon juice). Next, these ingredients need to be melted. This can be done in a steam bath or in the microwave. Mastic – Mastic is an acrylic substance that functions similarly to glue as an adhesive. Mastic is a non-cementitious material with advantages and disadvantages when compared to thinset. Thinset is a waterproof substance that will not lose strength when exposed to water, and it is considerably stronger structurally than mastic. Mastic remover is a term used to describe a substance that is used to remove mastic.

As a Greek I love cakes soaked in syrup. And I am not alone! they are so popular that even a term was invented to describe them. It is nothing else than Syropiasta or syrupy desserts! In Greek that translates to “desserts dunked in syrup”.Ostovan M, Fazljou SMB, Khazraei H, Araj Khodaei M, Torbati M. The Anti-Inflammatory Effect of Pistacia Lentiscus in a Rat Model of Colitis.
