This white rum has an extra almost aged quality to it which sets it apart from a lot of quite generic white rums. It’s not hugely oaky or full of aged notes but it does have a lot of fruity flavour. Unfortunately for me it doesn’t work all that well mixed with cola. It’s not bad but I enjoyed it more with lemonade or even soda water. Pampero Rum was first crafted in 1938 by the son of a fisherman, Alejandro Hernandez. The original recipe introduced a distillation process unique to Venezuela. The sugar cane is harvested in the humid dry season, to produce a smoother cut of alcohol. The alcohol is then blended with the local Carbonero spring water which helps give this spirit its smooth, rounded flavour. In 1953, Pampero became the first Venezuelan rum to receive the “Norvean Seal”– the seal of approval from the government as a guarantee of excellence, awarded only to products of the highest quality.

When you sip the rum or add just a little lemonade it gives you a very vibrant and very fruity drink. It’s not overly smooth or overly simplistic. It has a bit of a bite and it has a lot of nice well defined and bright fruity flavours. The notes on the nose transfer over and are added to by a little more fruit and a touch of coconut. Pampero Blanco actually works quite nicely as a sipper. It’s quite refreshing and the lightness of it is a bit like a sorbet. It’s quite a palate cleanser. It works beautifully in a simple Daiquiri. Many white rums are barrel-aged for several years and then filtered through charcoal to remove the inherited colour (and other impurities). Its main production plant is located at "Complejo Licorero del Centro", in Ocumare, Miranda state, in the region of the Tuy river valleys, in the central plains.Pampero rums, being aged, have a golden color that comes from having been matured in oak casks for several years, the duration depending on the type of rum.
