Propolis is the glue made by honeybees to build, repair and protect their hives. It consists of partially digested resins from a variety of tree buds and barks mixed with beeswax. In Europe, it derives mainly from poplar buds, but conifers are also used. Propolis, therefore, is a complex mixture comprising balsams and resins, waxes, essential oils, pollen and cinnamyl alcohol, vitamins A, B, C and E, flavonoids and minerals.

Anti Malaria Malaria is a serious tropical disease spread by mosquitoes. If it isn’t diagnosed and treated promptly, it can be fatal. All strains were susceptible and MIC values ranged from 4 to 512mg/mL for propolis activity. Propolis from Kazan-Ankara showed most effective MIC values to the studied microorganisms. MBC values of Kazan-Ankara EEP samples ranged from 8 to 512mg/mL. Death was observed within 4h of incubation for Peptostreptococcus anaerobius and micros and Lactobacillus acidophilus and Actinomyces naeslundii, while being 8h for Prevotella oralis, Prevotella melaninogenica, and Porphyromonas gingivalis, 12h for Fusobacterium nucleatum, and 16h for Veillonella parvula.
