Second Hand Uniden SDS200 VHF UHF Digital Base Scanner, FEATURES, FUNCTIONS AND SPECIFICATIONS: MAIN FEATURES Multicolor LED Alert – The alert LED with 7 colors, Blue, Red, Magenta, Green, Cyan, Yellow, or White, can be used with your Custom Alerts. The police in my city are now on digital and so this Uniden Software Defined Scanner seemed to be the appropriate radio for my needs. There are two basic ways to run this scanner: off a "hand entered" FAVORITES LIST or a LOCATION based list (eg zip code lookup using the built in database at each startup). The scanners sweetspot is tailored at decoding digital audio and basically everything to do with the menu system is related to this .

OK, so I have owned this scanner for about 8 months. It is still great. I have updated the database and the firmware using the Uniden Sentinal software. Very easy process that took about 10 minutes to complete.It is important to decide what you want to listen to before buying a scanner - it is false economy to buy a cheaper one only to find later that it misses out some frequencies that you would like to listen to. Ideally make a list of all the frequencies you are likely to want to listen to and then see which of the scanners covers all of them. Repeater Find – Allows the scanner to try to switch to the repeater frequency if an input frequency is found. If you upgrade the firmware or reprogram the radio after the upgrade the DMR and ProVoice functions will remain

The SDS200 is Sentinal based using a data base here a RR. Yes you have the option of Favorites and adding seperate frequencies but It is possible to boot up to a location based scan + your favorites list by default when you turn on the scanner. This might be useful during a natural disaster. If you assign a Startup Key to your Favorites List you can boot only to your Favorites List by holding down the appropriate key at startup. This is more useful for limiting your scan to Police and local UHF/VHF traffic.Like the scan feature on your car stereo, the Uniden Bearcat EZI33XLT+ also features a control feature that enables the user to control the scan process - including starting and stopping searches, as well as jumping to the next channel. Adjustable Scan/Search Delay/Resume – Set a delay up to 30 seconds or a forced resume up to 10 seconds for each channel or search. Do not submit a product review critiquing another review or reviewer. Reviewers should be able to share their product opinion without being publicly criticized. Conclusion , without hardware amendments and complete firmware redesign the SDS series will remain mediocre in terms of filtering and weak signal decoding of digital modes .There are very few videos showing the actual programming of the radio. However , I strongly recommend Bob Aune's 'Proscan' which is a real life saver with loads of features making programming this scanner easier from a PC or laptop. The Proscan software brings this scanner to life . Another thing is the database which is dedicated to the US/Canada, We dont have access to such a database outside of those coutries. Therefore we have to manually build our own favourite/scan lists which can be time consuming . Another way to ensure top speeds is to make sure your frequencies are laid out ascending from lowest to highest in each system. That will help a lot . SAME Weather Alert/Priority – Lets your scanner alert you when a SAME alert is transmitted on a NOAA weather channel. You can also set a weather channel as a priority channel.
