About this deal

This cannabis seedling is in a big pot. However, if you water it properly it should grow fast and healthy without getting overwatered. The gallon (4 L.) nursery containers, or #1 pots, are the most common nursery pot sizes used in the industry. While they normally only hold 3 quarts (3 L) of soil (using liquid measure), they are still considered to be 1-gallon (4 L.) pots. A variety of flowers, shrubs, and trees can be found in this pot size. Why? Giving 12 hours of total darkness each day forces plants to start making buds because they “think” winter is coming. It’s important not to wait too long as plants will about double in height (on average) after initiating the flowering stage. If you know your plant is a “tall” strain, initiate 12/12 when plants are 1/3 the final height.

You will need to fertilize consistently because watering washes away extra nutrients, and the needs do change based on the maturity of the tree. Topping a plant produces more growing tips, which will each turn into its own main bud once the plants start flowering. A growing tip looks sort of star-shaped from above. Make sure each of these “stars” gets access to direct light as plants grow or they won’t keep developing. Ideally, you want 6-10 growing tips to reach the top of the plant before the flowering stage. This helps the plant grow tons of buds instead of just one main bud in a Christmas Tree shape. As a result, you end up with increased yields. The boiler is hand-hammered to produced dimples on the exterior. This gives it a strong surface compared to flat sheets of copper, as the dents disperse the weight of any impact. It is a food-safe still ideal for moonshine, making essential oils, or wine making. It comes with a detachable thermometer. Okay, as an example, if you’re told to use a 10” diameter pot, does that mean a 10” pot that holds approximately 1.3 gallons of soil, a 10” pot that holds 2 gallons, or a 10” pot that holds 3 gallons? All three are common sizes sold at nurseries and vary in volume capacity based on their other dimensions. What are trade gallons?

When you grow a lemon tree in a pot, it’s not going to get as large as the ones grown in the ground. They attach to the citrus trees and start to eat the leaves; you’ll know it’s orangedog caterpillars when the leaves appear to be eaten or chewed from the outer edges inward. Then, spray your plant with liquid fungicide in June or July; you might need a second application in August or September. Sooty Mold Note: Unlike some other growing mediums, your plants will grow best if you avoid getting runoff water out the bottom. It’s easy for plants to get overwatered in super soil, plus runoff water will carry away nutrients. Since you’re not adding any extra nutrients from seed to harvest, you want to conserve the nutrients you do have.

I recommend using 5-gallon fabric pots for this grow method. I use the Vivosun ones but any brand of fabric pot will work! Unless you have your own awesome source of water at home, I’ve found the best results in organic growing come from using spring water (not filtered or distilled water). Bottled spring water typically contains a small amount of minerals and nutrients, yet has a neutral pH around 7. No chloramine. Perfect. Continue giving 1/2 gallon (2 liters) per plant every 3 days. You may need to give more at a time or more often as plants get bigger. If you’re getting a lot of runoff out the bottom (more than 20%) or plants droop after watering, it means you should be giving less water at a time. If plants get droopy before being watered, you should give more water at a time, or water more often. Thank YOU for a wonderful, detailed article on lemon trees in pots! We are venturing on our first and really want to make sure we’re doing right by these wonderful trees. Thanks again, really appreciate the insights and guidanceStills come in a wide variety of sizes. However, most craft stills will be between 3 gallons and 8 gallons. Have a think about how much moonshine you really need. When I get the chance I like to use clear pots. That way I can see how the roots are looking and depending on that is when/how I water.

It would be best if you used light-colored pots because it won’t absorb as much sunlight. Believe it or not, even though lemon trees like heat, their roots prefer to be cool.To my original post, I know some like to plant in the finishing pot, I do not. I like to transplant, I like to watch it get bigger and progress and I like to be there while it's happening. It's actually a proven fact that small plants in a bigger pot take longer to get good root mass. On top of that, like you said it's harder to tell when the plant needs water, because of all the soil in the huge pot you're thrown off my how big the plant actually is.
