My frustration today, is that I have had to stand for 3 hours plus continually filling machine, not very good use of my time, especially that I have to work, and I did not expect this at all. No override facility. Very frustrating. An affordable appliance that dispenses near-boiling water for cuppas. You can adjust the height of the drip tray but you can’t adjust water volume or temperature. There’s no filter or chiller. You also have to refill it with a jug, there’s no removable reservoir. But it’s great value. The Liscia jug has a height of 240mm, width of 260mm and depth of 100mm. It has a total capacity of 2.5L and a filtered capacity of 1.2L. It does have a generous capacity though, which goes up to 3.8 litres in total. When you add in the water filter, which comes included but needs to be replaced monthly, which drops the capacity to 1.8 litres. For a machine that is not cheap, and is only 9 months old, this is not what I expected for this product. She was sent the Aqua Optima Aurora to review, with a complimentary afternoon tea, by way of celebrating the product launch. The appliances was used regularly over a few weeks to make hot and cold drinks for herself, and her family. You can move the tray up and down as you like, meaning there won't be any splashing as the Aurora dispenses hot water. While it can support a mug, you can't rest anything larger on the drip tray. At the touch of a button, the Aqua Optima Aurora dispenses refreshing cold water and also near-instant steaming hot water for cuppas. Both are filtered. It’s like a worktop version of the boiling/chilled water taps you can have installed at the kitchen sink. And there are pros and cons to this alternative. The other pro is, of course, environmental. The energy-use picture is good when you compare its boiling water with a kettle. Kettles tend to need filling with a minimum of 500ml and everyone puts a bit too much water in, which is boiled wastefully again and again. Then there’s the times we forget the kettle has boiled and reboil it. That’s wasted electricity (and money).From our experience, the best hot water dispenser will last anywhere from around 5 – 10 years. However, it will depends on the amount you use it and also how much care you put into looking after it. 3. Are hot water dispensers efficient? Working from home is great. I’ve been doing it for more than 20 years, not just since Covid. But one of the things I still miss is ‘water cooler moments’. Not just to chat with co-workers, but to grab a drink instantly. When your desired settings are in place, press the central button and your water will begin to dispense. There is little-to-no wait before this, even on the hottest setting. Aside from the maintenance of the filter, it's important to descale regularly in a very similar way as you would with a coffee machine. When it's ready to be descaled the descale icon will be illuminated in orange, which takes out the guess work of when to descale. I'd recommend referring to the user manual for this, again, so best to keep this somewhere safe. Should you buy the Aqua Optima Aurora?There are 7 buttons on the front of the Aqua Optima Aurora. They are touch controlled, and I feel that a pushable button may have been a little easier to use, but this does give the panel a sleek finish. I liked the machine’s adjustable drip tray. You can move it up to lift smaller cups to the perfect height for no splattering or go low for large cups. I even found that I could remove it completely to fill my cafetière or a saucepan with hot water. I did start using it to make pots of coffee but the habit of boiling the (1.7 litre) kettle if I needed to fill a big pan was harder to shake.
