Our 3 year old loved the Redbed. Fits our T5.1 perfectly and provided an “interesting” little bed for our son. He climbed in and slept all night through (normally he gets up around 3am and jumps in with us). Some of the finer details of this coach include a bench next to the entry door that allows you to sit down to take your shoes off. There’s a pet drawer in the kitchen to hold your four-legged friend’s toys that are reachable for them. Grand Design is also known for having the biggest shower stalls in the industry. Cabbunk is compatible with both empty or fully converted van/RV/motorhome. That being said, after testing a Cabbunk in our Ford Transit, we think it might not be compatible 100% of the time, depending on how the cabin is finished. Who’s it for: People who need table space for working, want to have space for hosting guests, or prefer to sit around a table instead of sitting on their bed during the day.

In our experience, we’ve slept widthwise in both of our vehicles because they have both been on the smaller side. Sleeping lengthwise would have meant we had far less room for the rest of our layout. Walk yourself through the day and see how it feels. That should give you either the confidence to go ahead with your design, or the motivation to make some changes.

One big issue I have with this is that the poles have come sliding out the holsters at least a couple times when my kids were trying to crawl into their bunks, and landed on the other kids head. I’m going to try and use some Velcro that has an adhesive on one side. Hopefully that solves the issue. Both fixed and convertible beds have pros and cons. We had a fixed bed in our first campervan build and now we have a convertible bed. We’re going to share exactly what we loved (and hated!) about each design so you know what to expect. We scuffed up the inside of the aluminum tube, Before using construction adhesive to glue the inserts in place. We installed Eye Bolts at each end of our rails. We trimmed down the bolt ends so they don’t cause a snag hazard. Also, so nothing comes loose, we treated the threads with Red Loctite If you have trouble falling asleep at night, you may want to consider trying this all-natural sleep aid. My mind tends to race at night, but taking one of these when I’m having trouble winding down really seems to help. They’re drug-free and non-addictive, so it’s worth giving it a try. Insider Tip: We used an electric knife (like the kind you carve a turkey with!) to cut our foam and it worked really well.
