About this deal

That’s a bit confusing, but the app does allow you to change the name of the range extender network to something that’s easier to remember. Let’s keep it simple by calling it 'Range Extender 2.4GHz' and 'Range Extender 5.0GHz'. This is where things can get a little confusing. At the start of the set-up process, the range extender’s Wi-Fi network was called TP-Link_Extender on both the 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz bands. Cliff Joseph is a former Editor of MacUser magazine, and a freelance technology writer with 30 year’s experience in the industry (and old enough to remember when Apple was close to going bust…).

After you’ve turned on your router, you must connect your extender to it. To accomplish this, simply connect both of your devices using an Ethernet wire. There will be some small differences depending on the specific equipment you have but the basic idea of a bridge system is (starting from the camera): Yes, you will need to reconfigure your extender if you replace your existing router/gateway. You can reconfigure your extender either via WPS connection or using the web GUI.

When the bridge is first connected to power you should see all the indicator lights on the side turn on briefly, this shows it is receiving power. Once you’ve successfully linked your extender and router, get a wireless device that can connect to the extender WiFi. If you used WPS to get started, you may already be connected to the range extender. Alternatively, you can just tap on TP-Link_Extender_2.4GHz to connect your smartphone to the range extender. 4. Dual-band Wi-Fi

Plug the extender into the wall, then plug the Ethernet cable into both the extender and your computer. Alternately, disconnect from your home Wi-Fi network and connect directly to the extender. Note that in both cases you’ll temporarily lose web connection. If there’s a switch on the side of your extender, make sure it’s set to “Extender” mode, not “AP” or “Access Point.” (AP is for connecting directly to your modem, which you don’t need if you have a Wi-Fi router already, or an all-in-one modem/router.) It may need a few minutes to boot up. Note: Performing a factory reset will erase all current settings, and this action cannot be undone. Once the setup is complete you should mount the access point on the highest point that you can, with as few obstructions in between the access point and the location of the WiFi device as possible. The more obstructions that are in the way, the shorter the effective range of the access point, so if you need the signal to reach 200m from the access point then it will need to be a clear line of sight to the WiFi device. To reset the Comfast extender, press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds with a paper clip or similar instrument.Press on the finish button which you will get a progress bar show up. Once done you can take the lead out of the laptop and plug it into your router. This is called ‘roaming’ as it allows you to automatically switch between the router and the range extender, depending on which one is closer and provides the strongest Wi-Fi signal.
