About this deal

Are you desperate for help with your ADHD children, tearing your hair out trying to understand why they don’t react or behave like other kids? And not understanding why standard parenting techniques just aren’t working? This book will explain EVERYTHING !!

I love watching his YouTube videos and would highly recommend you watch them. I do, however, love books, something to have and hold. I’m old school. Some people find his approach authoritarian but, as with all parenting books, I would recommend you take the parts from it that suit you and your family. My daughter would never, ever do time out! When people told me to put her in timeout or on the naughty step, I would tell them to first produce a unicorn singing Sinatra. Do what you can. Sarah Templeton, a therapist with ADHD herself, has written this book after working with 100’s of ADHD parents from all over the UK, who have told her “if only I’d known all this stuff while they were growing up”. It avoids all the unnecessary detailed neuroscience and focuses on what it’s actually like to live with or have ADHD. Working with ADHD children and adolescents for ten years in private practice, Sarah has seen first-hand the road from ‘stroppy kid’ via ‘naughty teen’ to ‘young offender’ and is committed to helping teachers understand their ADHD students before things get out of hand.Sarah Templeton, a therapist with ADHD herself, has written this book after working with 100’s of ADHD parents from all over the UK, who have told her ‘’if only I’d known all this stuff while they were growing up’’ Well now all this information is in one place – in an easy-to-read format. Skip straight to whatever issue you’re struggling with right now. Space to make notes of what works and what doesn’t (handy for when Granny’s babysitting or they go to Dad’s for the weekend) and real-life examples of what worked, what didn’t, and why. Sarah has written this book after working with 100's of ADHD parents who said "If ONLY I'd known all this stuff while they were growing up". There are so many books on how to parent our children with ADHD. I didn’t know quite where to start. And with all the best intentions, I cannot find the time to read them all. Having spoken to several parents and having read a fair few myself, I thought I would compile a list of my Top 5 Books on ADHD for Parents. I’m sure everyone has their favourites! This is also very dependent on the age of your child with ADHD, and their specific diagnosis.

She has witnessed for herself how unmanaged ADHD adolescents can fail catastrophically at school, find their excitement through risky behaviour often leading them down the wrong path. This comes about through them understanding their ADHD and knowing that they can use their drive, passion for winning and not liking being told what to do to achieve hugely in life. It fits with my gentle parenting approach apart from the reward system idea but that in itself has encouraged me to think and challenge my existing parenting beliefs – actually if my little one has ADHD then he may struggle with intrinsic motivation (as pushed by gentle parenting) and might well need more extrinsic support, eg rewards. I know I do far better chasing a reward / goal in life, and I can set my own but little dude doesn’t have those skills yet.

Read it. Keep reading it. Use it as a constant reference. It's the BEST. There are simply not enough stars to give it" Sarah is an expert in all things ADHD. She works so successfully with ADHD clients because she understands the condition from the inside out” Dr Belda, ADHD Psychiatrist

It is from this book, which I have listened to numerous times now, recommended to EVERYONE, including my 9 year old’s school, I found ‘ Headstuff ADHD Therapy‘. I can say honestly, as a family, our experience with them has been life changing. Sarah’s second book ‘Teachers! How Not to Kill the Spirit in Your ADHD Kids’ helps teachers understand their ADHD’s childrens thoughts, actions and behaviours and gives them the very best ways of managing ADHD in the classroom, ensuring these kids go on to be the leaders and winners they were born to be. As it states on the cover, this book is aimed at children from 6-18 years. One mum noted that as it is written by an American Dr, the parts on the assessment process are obviously targeted at the US way of getting an assessment. It was still regarded as a useful book to have. To give this review some relevance I’m a 44 year old father and I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 32. My youngest daughter (9) has ADHD, in fact this book could have been written for her! Personally, this is my favourite so far. I think it’s brilliant. Probably because I like humour to get through my day and this has loads of that. The insight that she has from having ADHD herself really helps to put the points across. This is my new go-to book for sure. All parents should read this book, especially those with children who are out of control. Ross Greene presents a loving, rational, and research-based approach to dealing with problems that most parents have either felt were their own fault or were unsolvable. I could not recommend this book more highly.” —Edward Hallowell, M.D., author ofDriven to Distraction Comments Sarah Templeton is a vocal advocate for change and believes The ADHD Act is long overdue. She very much hopes this Act will ensure ~ Help is at hand!
