This was one of the best books I have read in the recent past that held me enthralled on the shennanigans of rich and powerful people. There is a tendency in our society to place successful people on a pedestal as if they are God (Elon Musk, Bill Gates come to mind). This book does a great job of showing these folks are just ordinary humans who have a number of negative sides to them. No doubt Bill Gross is a genius when it comes to investing but he is also a shallow individual that has an overblown ego... A perfect book... brilliant, chef's kiss! It's hilarious, tragic, witty, bright, smart, inspiring, devastating, and complete! Filled the Succession-size hole in my heart." —Kaleb Nygaard, Wharton Initiative on Financial Policy and Regulation. The narrative in The Bond King has a lot of King Lear in it, a bit of Game of Thrones, and definitely some Real Housewives — but with guys who have Bloomberg Terminals." -- Todd Trubey, Morningstar Janus Henderson Announces the Retirement of William H. Though I sat a few feet, generally less than 30, from Gross on trade floor, I got schooled!" -- John Brynjolfsson , ex PIMCO The Bond King is the story of Bill Gross, the man who founded Pacific Management Investment Corporation (Pimco) and basically made the concept of trading bonds profitable and successful, hence the title “bond king”. Pimco profited during the 2008 financial crisis, but the atmosphere at the company eventually got too toxic and things went downhill from there. Bill Gross (1997). [10] A prostate cancer survivor, Milken has devoted significant resources to research on the disease. [11] Early life and education [ edit ]Pretty good? Gross does seem extremely intelligent, and his criticisms of the finance industry and the groupthink of large corporations definitely rang true. He didn't beat the market for three decades by being dumb. But ultimately, finance is not mostly about being smart! It's about marketing the appearance of being smart, while using insider trading, monopolization, and the faith and credit of real money that real people made by doing real jobs to subsidize their fake jobs. The savings and loan crisis revealed this, the mortgage crisis revealed this, crypto revealed this. Gross is mad at the company he made because they want him to be a better salesman in a time when he made some bad decisions. He doesn't want to be accountable for those decisions. This makes him sound whiny and not smart. Landro, Laura (May 3, 2010). "Melanoma Survivor Seeks Cure". Wall Street Journal. Archived from the original on April 25, 2018 .
