About this deal

The pacing: Pacing is a problem. There are times when the book feels quite slow and I even felt a bit bored at times. The story feels like one chase scene after another, with not enough scenes in which the characters sit down and get to know each other. In May 1999, Stroud published his first children's novel, Buried Fire, which was the first of a line of fantasy/mythology children's books.

Scarlett and Browne - Penguin Random House The Notorious Scarlett and Browne - Penguin Random House

A really exciting, but at times scary, adventure story. Set in a lawless, future Britain, the story can be pretty dark at times, but also funny.I will tell you, Scarlett, because I trust you and respect you. Also, I think you are likely to punch me senseless if I do not." I loved The Outlaws Scarlett and Browne. I think it was wonderfully written and the world was real enough to get inside. I felt like I was really on the adventure with Scarlett and Albert, and they were delightful characters to go on an adventure with. Jonathan Stroud may write middlegrade, but his books have deeper, darker themes than most YA novels I've read. Cannibals? Child slaves? A corrupt religious organisation rife with prejudice? Oh yeah, that's the good stuff.

The Outlaws Scarlett and Browne by Jonathan Stroud - Waterstones

This is a mistake. Soon there are men with dogs and guns and explosives hot on their heels. Scarlett’s used to being chased by the law, but this is extreme. It was only a little bank she’d robbed... Common Sense is the nation's leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of all kids and families by providing the trustworthy information, education, and independent voice they need to thrive in the 21st century. Jonathan Stroud is one of my favourite children and young adult writers working today, and the goodwill I feel towards him for writing the Bartimaeus books in the early 2000’s is still very much alive to this day. There is a “brand” I associate with Mr Stroud’s writing, and it is a brand characterised by 2 elements:

It's just so touching to see Albert given a momentous role, a larger role than even Scarlett's, in this part of the series. I'm super excited to see more of him! (please, please, Mr. Stroud) Scarlett and Browne are downright famous these days. They even found brochures that had been made telling of their escapades! However, old enemies from Scarlett’s past and a sinister new threat from Albert’s world are boxing them in ... and holding their friends hostage.

The Outlaws Scarlett and Browne - LoveReading4Kids

The Notorious Scarlett and Browne was quite a thrill ride this time out! We had violence, breathtaking feats, cliffhangers, and narrow escapes from hails of bullets. Not to mention lots of terrifying creatures, including humans who have transformed into hideous, cannibalistic monsters called the Tainted. Whew. The story is set in a future Britain. Britain is now split up, lawless and has lots of strange, dangerous beasts roaming about in it.Ciertas partes de la novela son bastante previsibles pero no lo veo como algo negativo porque igualmente estás atenta a ello y sabes que está hecho así a propósito. You really do need to read book one though to understand the country and whats happened and who Scarlett and Browne are. Rich and strange (and kitted out with an eye-catching cover), but stronger in the set pieces than the internal logic. Everything in this book is firing on all cylinders. There are action setpieces that will leave your heart pounding. The world keeps expanding, as we see the glimmers of good amid countless atrocities in this dystopian England. Stroud leaves gentle indicators of where the series might go next, but tells satisfyingly complete stories within each book. And of course, there is plenty of humor, including a very funny execution sequence (not a term you often hear!) and some hilarious ballads about our favorite outlaws.
