Review- Iza Trapani use of watercolors in the illustrations and the use of the star really glowing and flowing into the night sky. It is also a very comforting lullaby. I think this is a great book for young readers to perk their curiosity about the sky and even outer space. A little girl sees a star in the night sky. She makes a wish on that very star. The star than takes her on a journey through the dark night sky.

The illustrations of the book are very nice. This brings the book more to life by letting the story be told through the pictures as well. Once the children are comfortable using the retelling cards, you can place them in your literacy center. Your students can bring the cards out for independent practice or practice with their peers. At first glance this book could easily be mistaken as a song, however it is the complete original poem of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" by Jane Taylor. This story is in a Christmas theme and tells the story of "the traveller in the dark" also known as, Santa Clause! In the poem, Santa comes to the homes of children guided by a twinkling star in the winter sky. On this Christmas Eve, Santa visits the home of a sweet girl who is the speaker of the poem. The poem is her thank you to the star for bringing Santa to her home. I love this story, I used to read it as a child. It extends what you know from the song and turns it into a magical adventure. We have deemed the car ride to bring my daughter to school as the “nursery rhyme” ride. For the 15 minutes when my toddler and preschooler are in the car, we sing nursery rhymes. I also feel that these new additions as well as the engaging illustrations help to strengthen the nursery rhyme. A) During a unit on holidays around the world, this poem could be used to introduce the Christmas tradition of Santa Clause visiting homes on Christmas Eve and leaving gifts for children. Original Summary: This was a book about a young girl who wished on a star to be able to be with it and go on adventures together. The girls wish came true and the star came to her and brought her on adventures all over the place.
