And she didn't feel that she wanted to do secondary education. So, after that, we didn't really get very much schooling for quite a long time.” It's hard for me to write a review for this book without coming off as an overly enthusiastic used-car salesperson, but I'm going to try anyway. A seven-year old girl on a seventy-foot yacht, for ten years, over fifty thousand miles of sailing’ SIMON WINCHESTER

Matthew Perry's co-star Rosanna Arquette pays tribute to 'kind and lovely' Friends actor and recalls his love of grape soda after death aged 54 At seven years old, Suzanne Heywood set sail with her family on a three-year voyage around the world. Three years turned into a decade, with little formal schooling and many tensions between Heywood and her parents. Our Yorkshire Farm's Amanda Owen 'is using her son Reuben's popularity to bolster her brand as she relaunches TV career after secret affair was exposed' Like many others here on Goodreads, I was gripped by the excerpt of Wavewalker in The Guardian. Despite having no particular interest in sailing, biographies, or the major events that occurred before I was born, there was something about that excerpt that made me want to buy this book on the day it was released - and I did. What was particularly sad was Suzanne’s relationship with her mother, which was frankly awful. But it really sounded like her mother was rather a victim of the dad’s autocratic flights of fancy too. She sounded depressed for a lot of time, and clearly took her plight out on her daughter. When seven-year-old Suzanne Heywood (nee Cook) was informed by her father one morning over breakfast in 1976 that she, her five-year-old brother Jon and their parents Gordon and Mary were going to sail round the world, retracing their namesake Captain Cook's voyage, 'the spoonful of cornflakes paused on the way to my mouth', she recalls.

This book is intriguing, sad, infuriating, astounding in its content and a story of a very brave child in a family that is not very caring if her. Inside Marilyn Monroe's DRAMATIC transformation from unknown nobody Norma Jeane into an on-screen icon My 10-year family trip from hell: Dad took me out of school and sailed me around the world for a decade to pursue his own dream Coleen Nolan shares an update on her family as she makes a heartbreaking admission: 'I've been feeling so redundant'A classic memoir of childhood. This is a book that every parent should read to consider the consequences of their midlife crises, and every child should read to learn how to deal with impossible mums and dads, as well as boils and barnacles’ Mail on Sunday 5* Exor announces three senior appointments and a reorganization of its investment activities".
