About this deal

We use some extra extra strong Deet we bought in Greenland which usually works. I do take vitamin B tablets but to be honest, I don't think they make much difference. I'd be dubious about garlic but must admit I've not tried it.

Can you recommend a sensitive mosquito repellent? Can you recommend a mosquito repellent that doesn’t include DEET? Does Avon Skin So Soft work as a mosquito repellent? These are just some of the questions I get asked on a regular basis. The active ingredient is Picaridin (also known as Saltidin). The WHO, Health Protection Scotland and Public Health England recommend Picaridin for effective protection against biting insects. It was developed as a safer alternative to DEET and smells and feels much more pleasant than any DEET products I’ve tried. I served 20 years in the Army in various places. I spent a lot of time in the woods. I have been eaten alive by mosquitoes even under a mosquito net. After 10 years in, I descover Skin so Soft and started using it. Rarely did I get mosquito bites thereafter. I sing it’s praise for those days of relief!! Reply Wearing light-coloured clothing may attract fewer midges as, like goths, midges seem to prefer dark colours. Calm, windless days and dull days are likely to be more midgey– midges stop flying in wind speeds greater than about 6mph.Hi I am not bothered with Midges but I do take it to the Carribean with me where it is suppossed to work for Mosqiutos, might just be me but i very rarely get bitten.

There are an estimated 181 trillion midges in Scotland and for every square metre of ground in the Highlands there could be 250,000 eggs waiting to hatch and go on the hunt for their next meal of tasty human blood. There are several natural methods that can help to keep midges away. Some of these include using essential oils such as citronella, lavender, and peppermint which have natural insect-repelling properties. It’s actually only the females that bite as they need lots of protein to form their clutches of eggs, but while they mostly feed on cattle and wild animals they’re also quite happy to chow down on any passing human that comes within range whether young, old, male or female. Buzz Off Spray Although it says this repellent is for mosquitoes I have found it to be useful against Scottish midge. It has a very pungent repellent smell on your skin but it's good at midge protection. This is DEET based and you should be aware it can ruin some plastics, such as watchstraps, but it does see off a wide range of insects including midges. It works by deterring insects from landing on the skin. Buy from outdoor stores including Tiso. I have to start this review by saying I’ve used Mosi-Guard natural repellent before and while it works, in my opinion it’s not quite as good as Smidge or any product that uses DEET.
