About this deal

As is confirmed in the comparison table below, these Celestron binoculars sit comfortably amongst the more lightweight 42mm binoculars on the market. Metal Multi-Stop Twist Up Eyecups: More durable eyecups that provide multiple stops for correct positioning for the user’s eyes.

Agreed, and the 10x50 would have been my choice right after the Celestron. The image was brighter, owing to the larger aperture, the color fringing was more noticeable but still decent, and the image was flat and sharp up until the edges. I should also mention that the Discovery's have a excellent eye relief and boast a close-up focus range of 4.9 feet - the closest of any bino's that I tested. At 11-inches (280 mm) in length and weighing 3 lbs. (1.36 kilograms), we found in our Celestron SkyMaster Pro 15x70 binocular review that they certainly have a lot of heft, but using them handheld isn't impossible. You'd be most comfortable if you mounted them to a tripod. However, because of their high magnification, the views of the moon are breathtaking. We were especially impressed by the stereoscopic viewing of the lunar surface. TrailSeeker features a close focus of just 6.5 feet, making it perfect for viewing birds, butterflies, plants, or other nearby subjects. But this 8x42 binocular also offers the magnification needed to get great views of distance subjects, plus a wide field of view so you can easily follow them as they move. No matter how you choose to observe, this versatile binocular is an excellent all-around performer. Attaching the Celestron 8x42 TrailSeeker ED binocular to a tripod is about as straightforward as it gets: There's something I don't quite understand about the "waterproof" limitations of the Nikon Monarch.

These are affordable skywatching binoculars that would be ideal for anyone just starting out who wants to get the most for their money. While there are some true wins to this model, there are a few reasons why they're on the cheap side, and we discussed them in our Celestron UpClose G2 10x50 binocular review. So, I can only recommend to inspect any set of binos carefully before you buy them - or decide to keep them.Whilst Celestron doesn't specify, the eyepiece housings look to me to be made from a metal and probably the same magnesium alloy used for the chassis. With the Trailseeker, rainguard and front-lens covers are of rubber and fit well. That's also true of the Monarch's front lens-covers; the rainguard, however, is a cheap plastic thing that doesn't fit the eyecups at all. Surprisingly, by means of some incomprehensible magic, this silly thing usually stays in place, and it even has the advantage that it can be removed very fast. However, if you get into a sandstorm, or even a gush of wind, carrying along dust, this rainguard will not be of much use. One item that is different is the carry case and unfortunately, it is not for the better. The non-ED TrailSeeker that I tested came with a higher quality case that was the same that they use with their more expensive models like the Celestron Granite 8x42 binoculars. I have to admit that I don't quite understand what Celestron is trying to achieve with this trash build: The optical quality of the TrailSeeker is as good as that of the much applauded M7, and if the TS had a really good build quality, they could sell it for twice the price. However, as it actually is, it isn't even worth half the price. TrailSeeker ED features fully multi-coated optics and phase- and dielectric-coated BaK-4 prisms. A binocular can be considered “fully multi-coated” when all air-to-glass surfaces are coated with multiple layers of anti-reflectivity coatings so that the maximum amount of light passes through the glass to the eye.
