About this deal

The instax mini Evo uses a 28mm f2 lens, this gives you a wide-angle that gets everyone in the shot. Snap subjects as close as 10cm all the way to infinity.

You can toggle the flash, dial in up to two stops of exposure and view the finished shot before committing to a print. Additionally, you’re able to print multiple copies of the same shot and even continue shooting should you run out of film. It’s not without its limitations: it’s unapologetically an instant camera first so if you primarily want to shoot digital images, you’ll be better served by your smartphone. Fujifilm’s decision to limit the app’s shareable images to those you’ve physically printed is also a real annoyance. The Instax Mini Evo app can be used for remote shooting (with live view), editing photos before printing, and transferring photos from the camera to your phone. Raymond Wong / Input

Shoot digital and print analogue on Fujifilm’s best of both worlds Instax Mini Evo hybrid device

The main menu features a number of different settings which you can change, including face detection, switching the AF illuminator on or off (you might wish to switch it off if you’re trying to shoot somewhere discreetly), print settings, bluetooth settings, date and time and so on. As well as an image capture device, the Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo can also act as a standalone mini printer, connectable to our smartphones via Bluetooth, meaning that photos transmitted from our phone’s camera roll can be output as hard copies. It also means that shots can be transferred the other way from the Mini Evo to our smartphone for sharing on social media or with friends and family. Truly its maker seems to be attempting to cover all bases and user requests with this one. When you’re ready to print one of your shots, pull the delightfully retro Print lever on top of the camera - sure, the same thing could have been achieved with a simple button, but where's the fun in that?! From the app you can perform a number of useful functions, including taking remote control of the camera (useful for selfies and group shots). The print slot is found on the left-hand side of the Instax Mini Evo (when viewed from the rear), so make sure it is unobstructed when you press the print button. A nice quirk is that the camera display will show a graphic of the print coming out from the screen.

There’s an endless combination of looks you can get mixing the lens and film effects. Raymond Wong / Input Storage capacity: Approximately 45 images in internal memory, approximately 850 images per 1 GB in microSD/microSDHC memory card (sold separately) One important limitation to be aware of is that the Mini Evo only saves images that you've actually printed into the app, not every photo that you've taken - so if you've filled up the built-in memory with 45 images, but only printed 10 of them, only those 10 will be saved in the app. Unique to the mini Evo is ten integrated lens modes and ten film effect filter options that offer 100 different combinations for photographers to express themselves and create one-off, unique shots. And when paired with instax mini instant film, the mini Evo creates the highest-ever quality instax instant prints to date, 600 dpi, when printed directly from the camera. The mini EVO is a digital instant camera that successfully marries modern convenience with the vintage charm we desire from the INSTAX process. It’s not Fujifilm’s first instant camera to employ a digital sensor and screen to preview and adjust shots before then choosing if they’re worth printing, but it is their most fun to date.

Instant hit

The Instax LiPlay from 2019 offered a range of different effects which could be utilised for those who liked to get a bit creative, but the new Mini Evo takes things to another level by providing 100 different combinations from 10 integrated lens modes and 10 filter options.

An instant camera for the 21st century, the Mini Evo allows you to preview your shots before you take them, tweak the exposure, add filters and flash, then print and share your shots to social media. Paired with its companion app, it can even be used to print off your smartphone pictures as well. The Instax Mini Evo is one of the strongest instant cameras that Fujifilm has created. Combining the digital camera features with analogue buttons results in a fun shooting experience, and the fact that it doubles as an instant printer is the icing on the cake. There’s also a small mirror which you can use to help you accurately line up selfies, an AF assist lamp and the flash unit, which can be switched on or off from the menu. Charging takes up to three hours. Also not supplied here is a microSD card for the storage of images, for which a slot is provided adjacent to that for the USB lead at the camera’s base. But then we don’t get a memory card provided when we buy a dedicated camera or phone anyway, so it’s hardly a deal breaker. As it is, the camera boasts an internal storage capacity for up to 45 images to get us going out of the box.
