These things that people love, they often turn around and destroy them.” not only is this my first FAVORITE BOOK OF 2023 i found this year (even though its a 2022 release), its also STEPH BOHRER (the hottest bookish girl on the internet) APPROVED. forget about me, but that alone should get you to read this book or at the very least add it to your TBR! This was such a light hearted no frills kind of read, this new to me author just let the characters do the talking without throwing any unexpected twists or turns, something you could see unfolding in life, without the fake marriage that is.. With his niece. i'm so glad so many of my friends posted about this one and put it on my radar! this was such a fun read and i enjoyed every minute of it! the characters are so great! i don't know who I'm more in love with Shay, Noah or Gennie (the niece). there is such chemistry between Shay and Noah, and you can tell just how much Noah has always been in love with Shay. IT SHOWS. and just so you know, long term pining and longing by the H for a worthy h are my kryptonite😍. i absolutely adored Noah and Shay's relationship with Gennie. the kid is the funniest, cutest and smartest little girl. she was the star! she literally had me laughing out loud time and time again. i wish there was a part two because i want more of this family🥺 Shay had spent two years in high school living on the farm while her always absentee mother traveled the world, where she became best friends with the boy the next farm over. Years later Noah has grown into a giant of a man, a magnate of the township (having expanded and grown his family's farming business over years), and a new father to his six year old niece.

In a Jam starts with Shay being left right before she's set to walk down the aisle, by a coward. She's scooped up by her friends (I was so happy she had a friend group) and is living on her bestie's couch when she is served with the will of her step-aunt, who has died and left her a tulip farm in Rhode Island. There's a catch though, Shay must be married within one year to retain the farm and its surrounding lands and the house.

In a Jam is on the long side for a contemporary romance, but it doesn't feel that way. I read this on audio and Jason Clarke and Kit Swann really nailed it. Clarke especially got Noah's growly bits, but the humor and sadness and soft moments were gorgeously narrated by both. Swann's treatment of Shay's self-doubt and general sense of being unmoored was beautiful. While I'm sure it's a great ebook, I strongly recommend this on audio.
