About this deal

I didn’t expect to want to listen to the audiobook of a person who I discovered through a series of short sketches in which the author players different parts of her body but here I am. In this book, I’ve overthought absolutely everything so you don’t have to. I’ll be talking about everything from dating to discharge, mental health to menstrual cups. I might not be able to banish your anxiety or make you feel 100% comfortable in your skin, but I hope I can at least give you a break from the constant brain chatter and we can rejoice and laugh at how similar we actually all are. See raamat on täis erinevaid piinlikku olukordi, millest paras osa jääb küll meile kahe kõrva vahele, samas nii mõnigi kipub ikka päriselu segama.

Me vs Brain by Hayley Morris | Waterstones

Also, the audio quality for the 'voices' of various body parts was really bad, and really 'tinny' - not what I would expect from an audio book. The books chapters are as snappy in comedy as the shorts I discovered her in and then hearing the last few chapters brought in a hard case of reality and how special life can be.

In this book, I've overthought absolutely everything so you don't have to. I'll be talking about everything from dating to discharge, mental health to menstrual cups. I might not be able to banish your anxiety or make you feel 100% comfortable in your skin, but I hope I can at least give you a break from the constant brain chatter and we can rejoice and laugh at how similar we actually all are. Now, I’m not going to dispute that the book is funny but I’m also not going to say that this book is about overthinking as it isn’t about overthinking in the way the dictionary states overthinking is –‘think about (something) too much or for too long’. Thoughts that go on and on. Hayley is a dream! She’s not afraid to talk the truth and in many of her sketches, we can all relate! An insightful, intimate account of modern life that is a joy to read, with shades of Dolly Alderton's Everything I Know About Love.' Ikka huvitav, kuidas inimkeha funktsioneerib....

To me, this means things like lying in bed of a night time replaying the day’s events or more worryingly running through scenarios in your head of things that most likely will never happen. Such as, if I let my child go into town on their own this weekend will someone hurt them, or take them? And then thinking about all things to do with that for the next few hours, kind of scenarios. Me vs Brain: An Overthinker’s Guide to Life is more small thoughts in different situations. Like when you are at the hairdresser’s and you look at all your imperfections in the mirror that highlights everything. Wow, my eyes are not quite level, is my nose really that wide, etc? To me, these are just random thoughts, not overthinking. I used to assume I was a little freak because I was always up to really weird things - conversations with myself, routines, rituals and games - that no one else seemed to do. Perhaps there’s something wrong with me, I thought. Eventually, after a lot of thinking, I realised that there are almost eight billion people on earth, and surely we’re mostly doing the same things as each other…. We are all human after all.’Hayley Morris's debut is a fresh, very funny take on 21st-century high-functioning anxiety... an insightful, intimate account of modern life that is a joy to read, with shades of Dolly Alderton's Everything I Know about Love Scarlett Sangster, iNews genuinely though gets better throughout and the dad chapters are the most thoughtful and genuine - kind of wish it had more of that vibe than the script style of the rest of it No heakene küll. A noh, moodsad, tõtlikud ajad.

However, the more this book went on, the more it felt so over the top and made topics that should be really important, feel really trivialised. Mulle jäi Hayley Morris millalgi Youtubes silma, tal on nimelt palju väga tabavaid elulisi lühivideosid. Kuna sarnasel puhul ühe teise juutuuberi raamat (Kristina Kuzmic "Hold On, But Don't Hold Still: Hope and Humor from My Seriously Flawed Life") oli väga lahe, siis mõtlesin, et proovin järgi.
