About this deal

We wouldn’t classify the CX Sports as a Sennheiser personal best, but they’re still a solid and appealing pair of Bluetooth headphones. They’re good all-rounders and we’d certainly consider slipping a pair into our gym bag. I hope the second iteration of the Sennheiser SPORT True Wireless headphones will doctor these issues – I look forward to testing them soon! Sennheiser SPORT True Wireless review – Also consider In particular, the sound quality is leaps and bounds above this price range, and the selection of earbuds and fins that come at no extra cost is something that far exceeds expectations. We regularly see an IPX4 rating (which is the same as IP54 in terms of water resistance) for models with ANC, but the Sport True Wireless in-ears don't offer any special features that excuse this low rating. Even a few pairs with noise cancellation, such as the Jabra Elite 7 Active, feature a superior rating (IP57). And some far more affordable options, such as the Tribit FlyBuds 3 (IPX7) do better here. Both of these models are among the best earbuds for runners. Sadly carrying spare ear adapters is impractical unless you have somewhere of your own to put them, and this feels like something of an oversight for a product that alleges to rely so heavily on the interchangeability of the ear adapters.

The tonal balance is smooth and full-bodied, while they're sure-footed rhythmically. If your system demands premium headphones and you can stretch to the HD 820 you won’t be disappointed. They’re comfortable and engineered to last. Taking the fins out of the equation however the earbuds are quite comfortable, and Sennheiser have shipped them with a “no fin” option that you can use if you want to trade off the stability the fin offers with the long term comfort of taking it away. Sennheiser designed the SPORT to handle any level of performance. The housing is made to be both durable and ergonomic and has IP54 Water Splash and Sweat resistance. The drivers are Sennheiser’s own 7mm dynamic drivers that they assure still give full bass tone, despite being smaller drivers. The SPORT also features adaptive noise cancellation, EQ, and customization through its app, Sennheiser Smart Control . Rated to international standard IP54, the Sennheiser Sport True Wireless earphones are resistant to dust, rain and sweat, making them ideal for workouts. Interchangeable fins and earbuds ensure a secure fit, letting you concentrate on the workout, without worrying about the earphones falling out. Now when it comes to battery life. The sennheiser Sport have decent battery life relative to their overall size. The Sennheiser Sport have an advertised combined battery life of 27 hours. The earbuds themselves can go for up to 9 straight hours… which is good for marathon runners or even retail workers, and the case can supply 2 additional charges. And the base CX’s also have this same battery life performance. The open-ear tips have a blue ring inside and an open tip, and are firmer when you squeeze them. The closed-ear tips have a silicone cross through the middle and are softer. Once you’ve selected your tip you can choose either “Focus” or “Aware” mode in the partner app, which will customise the EQ in line with the tips you are using. Vacuum technology gets smaller and lighter every year. See our review of the Shark Cordless Auto Detect Pro Auto Empty, a strong contender.

CX SPORT | Sennheiser

All in all, the HD 250BT are a superb budget buy – and a great way to experience what Sennheiser is capable of, without breaking the bank.

They're rich and gloriously full-bodied but still maintain clarity, particularly in the midrange. It gives them a superb tonal balance alongside their depth of bass, which will reward listeners of all stripes. The Sennheiser CX True Wireless has a pretty accurate frequency response (cyan line), compared to our target curve (pink line). Bass and mid-range sound is emphasized a little more, but it sounds pretty nice—nothing’s boosted so much to make music come through sounding notably distorted. The less emphasized high-range sound from 2-6KHz is a little surprising to see, but this is intentional as it reduces the amplification of naturally occurring resonances within the human ear canal that we typically perceive as irritating. Highs, mids, and lows Like the CX line, these earbuds have strong audio technology with what Sennheiser calls “TrueResponse dynamic, 7 mm diameter drivers”. Sporty types, these are for you, as indicated by that splash of neon. But there's much more to these than just an eye-catching colour scheme: they're wireless, so you won't get tangled while working out, and they're splash- and sweat-resistant, so should last a while. The sound is clear, with expressive mids and bass powerful enough to get you pounding the treadmill. A solid and appealing pair of sports headphones. C) They should have decent sound quality – The SPORT True Wireless has excellent sound, better than some more expensive headsets

The Sport True Wireless does not support wireless charging. Sennheiser Sport True Wireless review: Call quality and connectivity Sennheiser claims the open tips will reduce sounds like the pounding of your feet while running, and the buds were noticeably good on this front in Aware mode. You still hear your feet landing, but the noise comes more from outside rather than the internal thump you get with many in-ear buds. Despite the low price, features include Bluetooth 5.0with aptXLow Latency, a 25-hour battery life, app support and Sennheiser’s beloved-of-DJs transducer tech. Pretty decent, then. The headphones are compatible with Bluetooth 5.2 meaning you can connect them to a range of devices, not just your phone, with Sennheiser themselves suggesting you connect “to TV and Sports equipment, so you can stream your workout at home or stay connected in the gym.” In addition, the headphones come with an adjustable sidetone, making phone calls “more comfortable by letting you hear your own voice during calls”. That being said, the built-in microphone is functional but isn’t the best.

How do the Sennheiser Sport True Wireless connect?

Another helpful feature for listening on the move is the inclusion of an inline remote underneath the right earbud, which contains volume and play/pause buttons, as well as a built in microphone. The Sennheiser Smart Control app (available for Android and iOS) is a requirement because you need to tune the earphones via the EQ depending on which eartips you choose; the Focus EQ mode is for the closed eartips and Aware EQ mode is for the open ones.

Its unique Adaptable Acoustic feature also offers a choice of open and closed ear adapters, allowing athletes to tailor their listening experience to their sport. Thanks to its secure, customisable fit, the SPORT True Wireless is ready for even the most active challenges - all with the unique Sennheiser sound. We live and breathe audio. We are driven by the passion to create audio solutions that make a difference. Building the future of audio and bringing remarkable sound experiences to our customers – this is what the Sennheiser brand has represented for more than 75 years. While professional audio solutions such as microphones, meeting solutions, streaming technologies and monitoring systems are part of the business of Sennheiser electronic GmbH & Co. KG, the business with consumer devices such as headphones, soundbars and speech-enhanced hearables is operated by Sonova Holding AG under the license of Sennheiser. The Sennheiser SPORT True Wireless has a frequency response of 5 Hz – 21 kHz and a battery life of 9hrs plus 27hrs in the case, with a 1.5 hr full charge time. Sennheiser Smart Control AppWe are always impartial and do our best to make sure we're hearing every product at their very best, so we'll try plenty of different types of music and give them plenty of listening time (and time to run in), while the wired headphones that might warrant being used with a DAC are tested with a suitable one. It's not just about sound quality, of course. If a pair has active noise cancellation – increasingly the case these days – we'll ensure part of our testing involves using them in different environments. The company offers headphones to suit all styles and budgets – and (a lot of) very good-sounding ones at that. So good, in fact, that we've lost count of how many What Hi-Fi? Awards the brand has acquired over the years. The headphones are equipped with Sennheiser’s “TrueResponse Transducer”, a 7mm dynamic driver capable of delivering “superior clarity without distortion - even at high volume”. That's not to say they aren't well balanced; the CX Sports provide impressive audio quality across the board, and we were equally impressed by the clarity they provide to treble frequencies, even if we occasionally craved some more richness in the mid frequencies.
