Understand that unlike portals, Skylanders figures are not console-specific. This means you can use them with any Skylanders game they are compatible with, regardless of the console you are playing on. Skylanders Giants' portal looks very similar to the Spyro's Adventure portal, except it uses a wired USB connection rather than wireless.

The figures often have a metallic look, or a sparkling glitter-like aesthetic added to some portion of them. Some also feature unique appearances, such as Eon's Elite Slam Bam, whose figure is wearing ski goggles and carries a sled in one of his four arms. Skylanders Imaginators included the same portal of power as the third game, Skylanders Swap Force, so please reference the section of the guide for identifying a Swap Force portal if you need further details. Look at the very bottom of your figure. If there is a thin, red, semi-transparent plastic base layer on the underside, then it is a figure from the Trap Team game. Look at the bottom of your figure. If there is a thin, clear, transparent plastic base layer on the underside, and if the part that your figure is standing on is gold colored rather than the usual colors for the variety of elements, then it is a figure from the special line known as "Eon's Elites" and it does not belong to any one particular Skylanders game.

With the Introduction of the SWAP Force Skylanders, which are considered as two individual pieces, a new and updated Portal of Power was introduced, which allows for more room for the toys as well as being able to read more pieces than previously, such as when using two SWAP Force figures and a Magic Item all at the same time. This Portal of Power is flatter and not as tall as the original portal design, with the lip replaced with a thin wall. There's very little good to say about "Skylanders: Imaginators," other than that it retains a few of the standard things you'd expect the "Skylanders" series to have: some pretty visuals, decent music, and accessible gameplay for the younger audience it is geared for. So, at the very least, the game, as a whole, is functional, and it controls as smoothly as the other games in the franchise. They hoped that with new mechanics and systems, they can continue to attract new customers to play the game, as well as retaining the core players. [10] [11] As this creation mechanic introduced many new characters, the team decided to create a story that puts a huge emphasis on existing characters, so that these characters would remain relevant to the franchise. SuperChargers portals are compatible with Spyro's Adventure, Giants, Swap Force, SuperChargers, and Imaginators. You can change almost any of your customization options for your Skylander at any time, with two major exceptions. Firstly, you obviously can't change your Skylander's element so that it's different from the Imaginite Creation Crystal element it's stored in. Secondly, and more troubling, you can't change your Skylander's combat class. Once you choose how your Skylander fights, it's permanent. It can look and sound any way you want, but it will only fight using that specific weapon type. You can't reset your Crystal, or at least not officially; some users have reported success using a Nintendo 3DS Skylanders game and a glitch to effectively wipe the Crystal, but it isn't officially supported. SWAP Force Skylanders as well as their swapped combinations can be used with the original portals from Spyro's Adventure and Giants, this however only works in SuperChargers and Imaginators. The reason is because the original portals could only read up to 4 individual pieces (SWAP Force Skylanders being considered as two separate pieces), and Magic Items are no longer as useful in those games as they were in previous games.
