People always want something different so long as it’s the same! That’s the case with everybody. If you were to say that the original Thunderbirds never existed, and this was the first incarnation, we’d hope that people would love it just as much even without the knowledge that there is this lineage. It doffs the hat to everything that’s happened in the past – lots of easter eggs – really well thought out easter eggs. But as the times have changed, so have these characters. We have the original – that exists and isn’t going anywhere – so let’s take the blueprint of that and drive it forward and make it more futuristic. But there’s definitely hints to the old stuff! TB5 also appears (via archival footage) in Introducing Thunderbirds and The Abominable Snowman, for The Anniversary Episodes project. Having grown up on Tracy Island, Kayo is like a sister to the Tracy brothers. And as an expert in the Wing Chun form of Kung Fu, Kayo can more than hold her own with the boys – not even Virgil can match her in close combat!

Its mission is of paramount importance to the very existence of International Rescue... The first UK produced Thunderbird 1 by HPM, had a grey body, blue retractable wings and a friction motor. The model is 20cm long, Registered design No.9, and originally retailing for 8/11d. This was later reduced to 7/11d. It’s also worth noting that by the next decade (with UFO and Space:1999) the psychologist had either been replaced or changed their views – recommending that the SHADO Interceptor and Space: 1999 Eagle be painted a garish metallic green, when their on-screen counterparts were in fact white! However, during extensive research for a book on Lionel Anderson’s life, we discovered that this fact had been mis-remembered by Gerry. The truth is much more exciting and intriguing. It’s always been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. I had pictures of me in the full uniform, saluting! It’s always been something I’ve dreamt about doing and I never thought it could possibly happen. When I found out I got incredibly excited and just became a little kid again. It’s just great to go into the studio and be like a kid, having fun, messing around being a Tracy brother. It’s a dream – it’s just great.

Yes, so all the models are hand-built at Weta Studios. While we were recording they went over to New Zealand and they saw the building of it – so even then it was in its infancy. It’s phenomenal – the water is real water. Thunderbird 3: a single-stage-to-orbit spacecraft. Piloted alternately by Alan and John, with Scott as co-pilot. The Haynes Thunderbirds Manual describes additional facilities (eg, accommodation areas for more crew members if the need arises), along with other facilities to make Thunderbird 5 John's man-cave (!) - perhaps most notably (and spectacularly), John's state-of-the-art telescope, housed in a protective astrodome atop the station, enabling him to indulge his passion for astronomy during down-time between distress calls.

A couple of callers to an LBC radio show a few years ago cited these answers: Are you disappointed with the answer to the often-asked question: What does FAB stand for in Thunderbirds? It’s Gerry Anderson’s official answer and was repeated by many members of the crew who worked on the show at the time. Titled ‘Thunderbirds Are Go! | Introducing the World’, the video runs to one and half minutes and shows footage of the Thunderbird craft launch bays, the interior of Tracy Island lounge, aerial shots of the island, and what appears to be locations in Japan and an extra-terrestrial mining facility…
ITV today revealed the air date for Thunderbirds Are Go, finally putting an end to weeks of fan and media speculation. In what looks like a very astute piece of scheduling, Episode 1 will be broadcast as an hour-long special at 5pm on ITV1. Episode 2 onwards will air on Saturdays on ITV and CITV as a simulcast at 8am. What did you think of the new episodes? Who is the Mechanic and what is his relationship with the Hood? Will we finally find out what happened to Jeff?! Answer: I used to collect all Thunderbirds comic books and in one issue only, FAB stood For Always Brothers. I once won a competition in Smash Hits magazine with this very answer!

But even if a Thunderbirds comic book did state that FAB stood for ‘for always brothers’ it was certainly retrofitted. And ‘fully audible broadcast’?! We don’t think so. Although this story did not tie into the Lady Penelope strip featured in the issue, the titular superjet was a Fireflash, instead featured in the Stingray story.It’s phenomenal. And we’re not just saying that because we’re involved in it. I’m always a fan of original series – I’m a big fan of Transformers: I love the original. This isn’t one of those shows which has set out to ruin the original. We saw an episode – not the first one story-wise, but the first one to be edited and finished, and it’s just breath-taking, absolutely breath-taking, from the sounds of the ships, to the visuals, to how the Thunderbirds fly. It’s got lots of camera angles that doffs the hat to the original. In the original, when Thunderbird 1 launches (I’ve always remembered this), there would be a close-up on the craft and here we’re using the same shots – really it’s the same edits in many ways.

Thunderbird 5 toys have always been difficult to get hold of. International Rescue’s space station is a difficult shape, and isn’t action oriented, so toy manufacturers have tended to shy away from them.
Thunderbirds is set in the mid-2060s and followed the exploits of International Rescue (IR), a life-saving organisation equipped with technologically-advanced land, sea, air and space rescue craft; these are headed by a fleet of five vehicles named the Thunderbirds and launched from IR’s secret base in the Pacific Ocean. The main characters are ex-astronaut Jeff Tracy, the founder of IR, and his five adult sons – Scott, John, Virgil, Gordon and Alan, who pilot the Thunderbird ships. Other main characters included Lady Penelope and Brains. Lady Penelope lives a dual life. One is in the public eye of British high society, the other is a behind the scenes fixer for International Rescue. A smart and bold with a dry wit and great sense of purpose. When International Rescue needs something - be it information or materials, Lady Penelope is their source. They’ve made the ripples much more realistic. I don’t how they do it – they must put a pulse through it
