Yes you have to let go of that day in 8th grade earth science when we were by chance paying attention when teacher taught us "hot air rises" ... while there is a gentle rise in an indisturbed environment, that axiom does not apply when the air in your case is doing a 100% changeover every 0.5 to 1.5 seconds. This is simple math: The Lian Li O11D range is known for its modular innovations. The latest O11D EVO takes modularity to the next level. In addition to the easy to remove panels, this mid-tower case can be configured in one of two modes: Normal and Reverse. Whether your desk set-up is skewed to the left or right, you can create the perfect showcase gaming PC. Thanks to the hassle-free design, it only takes a few simple steps to arrange the Lian Li O11D EVO into Reverse Mode. The top and bottom panels can be switched and the whole case flipped, putting your hardware to the left-hand side of the case rather than the traditional right. The interior of the case is indeed crafted with utmost care to each thing. The case doesn’t come with front ventilation but it can accommodate 3x120mm fans on the side and bottom and 3x120mm on top or 2x140mm on top. It is a dual-chamber design case that one can use for a neat and clean setup keeping all the cable and the unnecessary things hidden from the main chamber. Even though the O11D EVO has no fans of its own, it still flows enough air through our radiator to place between the quiet-design SilverStone Seta Q1 and two fan-equipped gaming cases, the Cooler Master HAF 500 and the Corsair iCUE 5000T... Now, if you prefer your motherboard to face right instead of left, the bottom panel can be removed and swapped with the top panel. One gripe is that the bottom panel's dust filter is the only one in the system and, being held in place with magnetic strips at its edges, is prone to falling off during handling. In this area, you'll also note additional square holes near two corners that allow the front-panel module to be relocated to either side.The O11 is designed for more than just adding a few fans, though. We'd recommend a more elaborate build with three 120mm intake fans on the bottom, since that's where the dust filter is located, plus some kind of radiator and fan combo on the top to aid in voltage-regulator cooling. The interior of the O11 Dynamic XL bears a similar resemblance with that of the non-XL variant but there are a few notable changes that Lian-Li has made on the new one. The case now can support the E-ATX motherboard as well but you need to add the additional frame that comes with the case. However, doing so will disable the option to install a radiator at the side, and to my best guess, it won’t be an issue at all. GPU temperature testing: Unigine Heaven set to Ultra Detail, Extreme Tesselation, and 8x Anti Aliasing at 1440p for 30 minutes. Cooling fitment is where the PC011D XL comes to life as you can fit up to ten 120mm fans and triple 360mm radiators in those same places with the rear port supporting 120mm fitment. The vertical tray parallel to the motherboard as configured out of the box has SSD mounts in place. But when removed this is where one of the radiators can be mounted along with top and bottom mounting perpendicular to the motherboard to reach your total of triple 360mm radiators. As with the drive mounts found throughout the rest of the case, drives are secured using rubber grommets and shoulder screws.

Should you prefer vertical or, the more traditional, horizontal mounting, then AiO cooling is the best option. There is support for three radiators and up to ten fans across the chassis. In both Normal and Reverse modes, up to a 360mm radiator can be mounted on the top, side, and bottom, with the latter two having support for 280mm models, also. Depending on radiator size, up to three 120mm or two 140mm fans can be installed in the same areas, with the tenth being a 120mm fan on the rear. Dual-Chamber, Sleek Interior Lian-Li also included the addition of a fan at the rear which one can utilize for exhaust purposes, unlike the non-XL variant that didn’t have the option. Furthermore, the O11 dynamic has a limitation of 120mm fans everywhere except for that of the top, which could optionally fit two 140mm fans, however, the O11 Dynamic XL adds support for a further two optional 140mm fans on the bottom tray. The O11 Dynamic is truly a unique case of its own, having ventilation at the side. There are many who might wonder, having the ventilation located at the side, might not be a good option to have sufficient airflow, but, firstly the case is aimed at water cooling. However, in terms of air-cooling, this case also excels in that respect. c) Filters have a very significant effect on air flow ... which can range up to 30% when "moderately clogged with dust. Lets say your anal about cleaning and use 80% The quiet Seta Q1 is at a disadvantage here, since we chose to front-mount our cooler to keep that case's top-panel noise baffle in place (in keeping with the purpose of that case).

Since it's designed to be equipped with the user's choice of hardware, including fans, the Lian Li 011D EVO presented a slight testing challenge in terms of comparing it to cases delivered with a loadout of their own fans. It overcame that challenge by flowing sufficient air in "exhaust only" mode using nothing more than the same closed-loop cooler that we'd used to evaluate those other cases. Fans move air thru the radiation and the rate of heat removal is proportional to Delta T; so what does the math tell us ?

The O11D EVO's prime customers are show-system builders who regularly blow their PCs out with compressed air. You could possibly boost the case's practicality by using higher-flow fans on the bottom or ignoring the side radiator mount, but, after all, we're looking at a case that can support more drives than most people own. For builders who use the side drive mount instead of radiators, this chassis could be the best of both "show-off" and "storage." The glass side of the O11D EVO is slightly quieter than the Cooler Master's, while the vented side is slightly noisier. Both fall within earshot of the quiet-design Seta Q1, while the Corsair gets penalized for having more powerful fans than either the HAF 500 or Seta Q1. That could create a grand visual for builders willing to put RGB fans on both sides of their radiators as well as those installing a single layer of fans without the radiator. Depending on how you configure certain hardware and panels will dictate the best cooling solution for your build. The Lian Li O11Dynamic XL Full-Tower stands slightly raised atop rubberised steel feet, meaning that cool air is able to enter the case through the dust filter in the bottom. Thanks to the chimney effect, warm air travels upwards and consequently exits through the roof - which is also equipped with a dust filter. Two additional dust filters cover both perforated grilles in the right side section.
