About this deal

Durability is assured by the cast-aluminum construction. For transportation, the jig is dismantled into two pieces, and it comes with a carrying case. A guide bush for the router cutter is included, though the cutter itself is not—rather disappointing given the Trend door hinge jig’s high price.

How to Measure and Fit Concealed Cabinet Door Hinges

Cabinet door hinge jigs are simply held to the inside of the door using any convenient woodworking clamps. Ratcheting types are convenient because they are easy to use one-handed. Two clamps should be employed, one either side of the cutter guide, to ensure that the jig can’t twist.Once adjusted suitably to allow the door to open and close without touching or binding on any surrounding surfaces you’re pretty much done, good job! Hinge: The hinge section as you may guess pivots allowing the door to open and close. It also attaches the hinge cup to the mounting plate Repeat the same for the bottom and also for any other hinges, again remembering to measure from the correct point. Move the door into place and slide the hinge of the cup onto the mounting plate. If you are using clip-on hinges, gently wiggle the hinges down on to teh mounting plate until they clip in place.

Fitting a concealed cabinet hinge is a slightly different process to fitting a standard hinge in that it needs to fitted slightly offset from the edge of the door and front edge of the cabinet carcass, so accurate measuring and marking is a must if the cabinet door is to fit correctly. In addition to the 35mm offset cams, a pair of 26mm cams is also provided. These allow the BI-DTool jig to be used for smaller hinges, though the required cutter is not included. Unlike the Kreg, there is no scale on the edge to help with alignment. Additional clamps are required to hold the jig in position, but that’s typical of this kind of jig. A 1/16-inch drill is provided for retaining screw holes, though care is needed as this can easily cut into the plastic guides on the jig, thus reducing their accuracy.Hope that’s useful, I’m going to make a template and use these new style ultrusta cabinet hinges tomorrow, on a ‘hole in the wall’ pair of doors project. I’ll add some notes here if I learn anything new to watch out for. UPDATE Using a tape measure, measure and mark with a pencil around 85mm – 100mm down from the top of door on the hinge edge and the same up form the bottom.

When choosing new concealed hinges always go for the best quality you can afford. Cheap hinges will certainly do a job but the metal tends to be quite thin so they twist and flex easily causing them to drop under the weight of the door. Firstly, measure and mark the same distance down from the top of the inside of your cabinet that you previously marked on the door for the top hinge, normally this is around 85-100mm. This guide takes a close look at both types of door hinge jigs: those for full-size doors and those for cabinet doors. The two are actually quite different, so we’ll explain their technical aspects before offering suggestions for what we believe are the best door hinge jigs currently available. Use the tables below to work out how many hinges you will need to install to the cabinet door you are fitting to ensure it opens and closes correctly and more importantly doesn’t sag. Additionally it is not advised to hang particularly heavy doors using only 26mm concealed hinges. Anything really over 5kg’s should be hung using 35mm hinges instead. Even skilled carpenters usually turn to a door hinge jig to ensure the fast, accurate positioning of door hardware. This tool helps obtain the precise measurements required for the task of installing doors. Most are simple enough to be used by even relatively inexperienced DIYers, and most are very affordable—especially when compared to the cost of ruining a door. Although they’re both 35mm concealed hinges designs can vary so use an existing hinge to get an exact match Is the Cabinet Door Fitted Internally or Externally (Overlay or Inset)? I’d want to be 110% sure I had the right measurements before drilling 27 doors! Getting it wrong would be expensive and of course, if you supply the numbers, it’d be your responsibility. It is easy to be critical, but for a one-off job, or for someone who has a pillar drill to set depth, the Everbilt does the job at a fraction of the price of most competitors. There are a number of cabinet hinge jigs available that mimic the high-quality Kreg model described above. The BI-DTool has a few features that set it apart from many low-cost rivals. It is made from engineered plastic—a synthetic resin noted for increased durability. Cams provide the usual offsets at 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, and 6mm, and there’s a depth stop so the jig can be used for framed and frameless doors.
