About this deal

Stir the contents of the tin thoroughly before and periodically during use and especially so with coloured oils As always, read the instructions on any product you buy and follow them. Generally, though, you can expect to apply two coats to achieve fresh and well-oiled looking results. Application and Drying Time

Its a bit of a battle to maintain the natural colour of these types of woods I am afraid, they will just naturally silver and for many people this is the desired result. It is a balancing act to get the best for the wood, protection or colour. Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin.

Clear decking oils

If this is the first time you have oiled/used a particular product it is best to patch test a small area to see how much oil needs to be applied for it to soak into the wood. Resinous wood, such as Larch or Douglas Fir, needs to weather off for at least 6 weeks to improve absorbency. Pressure impregnated wood and tropical species like Massaranduba, Bangkirai, Garapa, Iroko need to weather off for at least 3 months. Cedar requires a 3 month weathering period to improve absorbency.

After the weathering period, it is generally recommended to clean the surface from the extractive content. Osmo Wood Reviver Power-Gel can be used to refresh the colour of the wood. If necessary and before application, de-grease the dried surface with Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner (degreaser), always trial apply! Before you begin, you will want to ensure that the pigments have been properly mixed in, so give the oil a good stir. Also oiled finishes although dry and ready to use after 24 – 48 hours continue to cure and get more durable for days and weeks following application. Covering will prevent the natural curing process from occurring and this is one of the reasons we do not recommend putting rugs over and oiled floor for the first month. If you keep up with regular maintenance there should be no need to retreat with the reviver, but if you do need to use it again in the future the oil will need to have worn away or you can use a pressure washer to remove the last of it. What if straightening the boards just isn’t going to fix the issue? You might have to replace the warped boards altogether, in which case here’s a link to

Pressure impregnated wood and tropical species like Massaranduba, Bangkirai, Garapa, Iroko need to weather off for at least 3 months. An oil soaks into the surface of the wood and will wear away over time. A stain, paint or varnish is a surface sealer and over time could peel and flake, exposing bare wood underneath. Paint, stains or varnishes can be removed with a stripper such as Paint Panther Paint and Varnish Remover. Oils unfortunately can not and if you can’t wait for them to wear away naturally the you can use a pressure washer to remove much of it, care must be taken not to damage the wood however. A. Bare wood rich in natural extractives requires a minimum of 4 weeks' weathering before initial treatment or can be cleaned with Osmo Brush Cleaner. Resinous woods like Larch and Douglas Fir benefit from 6 weeks of weathering. Pressure-treated wood and tropical species (Massaranduba, Bangkirai, Garapa, Iroko) need 3 months weathering. Cedar also requires 3 months to enhance absorbency.

If you need a filler for the long gaps or areas along the top and bottom then you could have a look at the Cuprinol All Purpose Filler it is ideal for long thin gaps and has some flexibility for natural movement in the wood. If possible, and if the wood is absorbent please apply the first coat to all sides before installation. Rosewood: 4-6 weeks exposure. However, Natural Oil Woodstain 727 Rosewood is optically suitable and requires a weathering period of approx. 12 weeks before use of Natural Oil Woodstain. This period is often around 10 – 12 weeks and can allow the wood to start to silver some, it depends very much on the time of year and level of exposure to the wood. You may find that it this time of year you may get away with minimal fading as we go through the winter. And the wood may then be ready for application come the Spring. This is a protective water-repellent coating. If your timber isn't treated with a preservative then depending on the type of wood and product, you may want to use our Wood Preserver ++ first.

Species with a high content of natural wood extractives will need to weather off, usually for 4 weeks minimum. Alternatively clean with Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner to degrease.

If the finish is an oil it should have soaked into the surface of the wood and will naturally wear away over time, it will not peel and flake unless it has been over applied.Oils can not be removed with a stripper, some lift will come from using a pressure washer, but take care not to hold the nozzle too close to the woods surface as this will damage and splinter the wood. The Natural colour is perfect for those who want to preserve the authentic appearance of their wood, while the satin finish provides a smooth, even sheen that looks sophisticated without being overly glossy. Although the drying time is a bit longer at 6 hours, the application is still simple and convenient with either a brush or roller. Bangkirai: 12 weeks exposure. 006 Bangkirai is optically suitable and a very popular choice of colour tone. The finished surface is influenced by several factors, including the condition of the wood. Therefore, a trial application is always required, especially for unfamiliar surfaces.
