About this deal

What on earth are all those additives?! Why are they needed if it is such a good quality food? Such confusion! While our Dr John dog food review is totally non-biased, we really can’t find any faults, except for the hefty price-tag that is. From our research, it seems as though dogs all over the country are absolutely lapping up these products. The BVA told us: 'We don't recommend a raw food diet, at least without a vet's guidance. This is for two main reasons: the nutritional deficiencies that often come with feeding raw food (eg low taurine in cats or high vitamin A) and the risks associated with handling raw food – both for the pets and the household.'

Gilbertson And Page: Making dog food for over 140 years

UK Pet Food says: 'All "complete" pet foods must by law contain all the nutrients in the right proportions that a pet needs for healthy bodily function.'On a day-to-day basis, ensure you're feeding your pooch the correct amount by measuring out each meal on weighing scales. A few extra bits of kibble might not seem like a lot, but it can massively contribute to weight gain.

The dogs aren't appearing "happy and healthy" BECAUSE of the food they are being fed. Very few animals 'start out' ill and diseased, and get better by improving their nutrition, but most - if not all - animals will suffer the consequences of a poor diet eventually. How much your dog should eat will depend on factors such as breed, type, age, health and lifestyle. For example, a working sheepdog needs more energy than a small dog with a less active lifestyle. However, this being said, you do get for what you pay for, and there are hundreds, if not thousands of happy owners that swear by Dr John’s. Conclusion From dry and wet dog food to raw, there are hundreds of options available, and it can be hard to work out what’s actually best for your pet. We can’t seem to find many alternatives that quite match Dr John Dog Food. There are a few grain-free products out there, but we really are very impressed with Dr John. If your budget can stretch to it, we would highly recommend grabbing a bag. We are certain that your furry friend will lap it up!

Pet obesity is the top welfare concern for vets, according to the 2021 PAW report . Another 2021 study from the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) found that one in 14 dogs were recorded by their vets as overweight . The study also found that some breeds were more prone to gaining weight. The problem here is that some people seem incapable of realising that topic subject matter, and what people say in their responses to it, has absolutely nothing to do with their personal situation - at least that's not what is INTENDED by people's replies. Some folk personalise everything that's said in people's replies when they really shouldn't do so. Like we have mentioned above, it’s pretty hard to find any negatives in this product. The only thing we can say is that it isn’t cheap. So, if you are looking for an inexpensive product, Dr John is not the place to look. However, the BVA warns that it can be difficult to do it well and, unless you work with a veterinary-trained nutritionist, there's a risk of harm to your pet’s health. It all looks natural though, so I'd say it is a pretty good food overall, and certainly far better than the majority of commercial rubbish there is out there. Arden Grange looks a little more 'suspect' to me, although we have fed it in the past: I do admit that a 'complete' diet isn't perfect for dogs, yes. When or where did I say otherwise? I doubt there even IS such a thing as a perfect diet for all dogs (although the raw diet sounds to me like the most plausible, sensible and 'natural' option) hence questions and topics such as this one, and the confusion over feeding decent food to our companions that seems all too common. The fact of the matter is that for the same money you'd spend on a bag of Dr.John's food, you could be buying a far better product, or even making your own homemade food. Here's what animal charity PDSA suggests you look for – and what to avoid – when choosing dog food. What to look for While not the cheapest dog food out their the price point for Dr Johns is good value for money considering the quality of the food that is provided. Dry foods are usually the most economical, and easiest for you to feed and store. Owners who feed wet food should monitor their pet's teeth, as it can predispose them to dental disease.

Weight-related problems can range from musculoskeletal conditions to breathing issues and diabetes, among others.I have had my eyes opened to the benefits of a natural, raw diet since joining this forum, and that is what I have been led to believe is the very best we can feed our dogs - hence it is what I'm going to attempt to feed from now on. Perhaps even this diet isn't the best - which has led to my confusion on the subject with such differing advice being published here there and everywhere. If we miss you on the first delivery attempt, we will try again the next working day. Alternatively, you can visit DHLand easily re-arrange your delivery to something which suits you better! You can choose from the following options: Also, from my research this seems the common trend is dogs are loving and enjoying the food well. Of course, there were a few people who have had issues but that seems very uncommon for dog owners who are feeding their dogs this food regularly.
