About this deal

I decided to include this Fosmon HD8062 in this review because of its price for its value. It has 5 additional HDMI ports and an infrared remote to switch between them. It works like a charm.

But if you just want a splitter that's reported to work for mirroring your video, with a high probability of working, keep reading. Connecting a gaming console to your TV is one of the main reasons people buy an HDMI Switch. However, while there should be no issues with the original PS4, the older XBOX, and most other gaming consoles – the PS4 PRO, PS5 and XBOX Series X do raise some concerns. For passive HDMI splitters, that is the long and short of it. For active HDMI splitters, there is another step.

Pros

An HDMI splitter is a fairly simple piece of technology that allows you to transmit audio-visual data from one HDMI source – regardless of the size of cable like mini and micro (our tutorial on the differences) – to two HDMI receivers. This can be useful in situations where you have a television and a sound system you want to feed an external source to, but your devices don’t have HDMI ARC or eARC. It can also be useful if you want to display the content from one source on multiple TVs. There are a number of factors that you want to think about, the first being splitter or switch. If you’re going from one source to multiple displays, you want a splitter. If you are connecting multiple content sources to one display, you need a switch. Once you have that nailed down, you’ll want to consider the following. Inputs and outputs This means you would not be able to immediately tell what is happening with the audio or visual information by looking at the electrical pulse pattern.

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a proprietary audio/video interface for transferring uncompressed digital video and audio data from an HDMI compliant source devices. From a display controller, you can send the output to a compatible computer monitor, video projector, digital television, or digital audio device. Passive HDMI splitters are usually sufficient for most applications. If, however, you have a setup involving long cable runs, then you should use an active HDMI splitter.

Cons

When you search to buy the best HDMI switcher, you’ll see devices called “HDMI Switch”, devices called “HDMI Splitter”, and those that mix it up and say they’re a Switcher AND a Splitter. Most people have encountered a variety of issues with their HDMI splitter. With this KanexPro, you’ll feel good about this its quality. Using an active HDMI splitter for longer cable runs should help eliminate this problem. However, if the problem persists, you may want to upgrade your HDMI cable to one that is better shielded, or another type like directional cables which we’ve talked about before. A shielded cable has an extra layer of material (usually a metal alloy or carbon allotrope) that deflects radio waves.

The main reason for buying an HDMI switcher is that you no longer have enough ports on your TV. Therefore, it would be annoying to run into the same problem two months after you buy the switcher… Like many things in life, an HDMI splitter is one of those items you never knew you needed until you get one, then you wonder how you ever lived without one. With many professional and personal applications, an HDMI splitter allows you to send one content source to multiple displays. This can be useful if you, say, run a sports bar—or if you simply want to use multiple screens for some multiplayer gaming. Make sure that your HDMI switcher is compatible if you are routing the output of the switcher through a home theater receiver that provides decoding for advanced audio formats, such as Dolby TrueHD, Atmos, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS:X. To compensate for this power loss, active HDMI splitters add power to the HDMI signal. This is done by using an external power source (usually a As previously discussed, a passive splitter will technically mean a reduction in signal strength. However, for most uses where you are likely using shorter cables, this shouldn’t matter much. The reason lies in how digital audio and video signals work compared to their analog counterparts. So a switcher lets you switch between different HDMI signals, while a splitter lets you split one HDMI signal out to several screens. However, with multiple screens comes the problem of using your media devices – such as streaming devices, gaming consoles, DVD players, etc. – with those multiple tellies. Without buying multiple devices, that is… While many splitters and switches don’t require an external power source, others do. Be sure you’ll have an available outlet if that’s the case. How We Selected An HDMI cable has 19 wire pairs that terminate in the same number of pins on the HDMI plug. Each of these wires transmits different information electronically via digital signals. This includes not only audio and visual data but also information about the specific devices and commands you might find on a remote control.

If possible, you should connect the PS4 Pro or PS5 directly to your TV’s HDMI port, and then use a switcher for the other devices you want to connect, on a different TV port. power outlet) to power the signal. The original signal is passed through an electronic component called a transistor. This signal acts as a gate, allowing and restricting the wall power source (significantly reduced from the 120 or 240 volts that come out of the wall) as the signal passes through it. You can think of it as a megaphone but for electricity. When Would You Use an HDMI Splitter? Getting the perfect HDMI switcher for your needs is not just a question of quality or even price – it also depends on which features you want and what exactly you’re planning to connect to your TV – now and in the future. With a digital signal, this is not the case. Unlike an analog signal, which communicates not only through the frequency of electrical pulses but also their voltage, a digital signal communicates only through the frequency of electrical pulses. With a digital signal, there are only two states: high and low.Because the digital signal depends only on frequency and not voltage, reduced power does not translate to muffled sound or color-shifted picture. This is why you shouldn’t have to worry about using a passive HDMI splitter for short cable runs. On the other hand, an HDMI switch manages multiple source inputs to transmit to a single output (most receivers act like HDMI switches). Thus an HDMI splitter will transmit to all available channels while an HDMI switch will only transmit to one. How Does an HDMI Splitter Work?
