About this deal

In fact the only operational flaws we could find were minor ones – to enter the list of recorded programmes, you have to enter the setup menu rather than simply hitting a button on the remote. Also, when you select a recording to watch, it plays in a small box and you have to manually exit the menu to expand it to full screen, which seems more long winded than it should be. Can the system format a new unpartitioned drive or do I need to run a linux Live CD and partition and format the drive first? I assume that actually formatting the drive achieves nothing? If that is the case then I agree this is a classic case of hard drive failure. The Humax PVR9300T is a the bigger brother to the popular 9150T, and whilst you get all the same benefits there are also some essential additions which make it a serious device for the power user. Also onboard are two Freeview tuners that enable you to record one channel while watching another, or record two and watch a third.

I have a 9300t 320Gb and wanted to upgrade the drive; I'm having to constantly manage capacity and it's getting 'glitchy'. The plan was to put the new disk in, format it and if all was well, transfer the files from the old disk. Unfortunately I hit a snag; here's what happened: However, there are restrictions – if you’re recording two channels on different multiplexes, then you can only watch a third channel if it’s on the same multiplex as one of the channels being recorded. But if you’re recording two channels on the same multiplex, then you can watch a third channel from any multiplex. It sounds complicated, but trust us, it’s a very useful feature. My post also specifically states that re-flashing the firmware was irrelevant to the process - its just where technical support pointed me to - and then I worked out what was on the disk and decided that the best way to see if it was going to be serviceable was whether it could be formatted. So that's it. A neat, classy set-top box that works well, is sensibly priced and would be a real pleasure to live with. Sounds like a deal to us... During TV viewing, you can summon the 'iPlate', which provides more information about the current programme than any rational being could ever need.Apart from a change of colour, the remote isn’t radically different to the PVR-9200T’s zapper, which is a very good thing – the basic button layout gives it a rare simplicity, and it helpfully hides the lesser-used keys under a sliding flap at the bottom. Colours are vivid and accurate, edge stability is first-rate and setting recordings is brilliantly simple, thanks to an easy-to-understand seven-day EPG. this proprietary format takes the HDD out of any real use for anything outside the PVR until it is reformatted to ext3 or other non proprietary format......... Two tuners, of course means you can record two programmes at the same time, whilst watching another, or if using the aerial loop-through, you can still use the tuner in your TV. A word on warning on the loop through - if you turn on the "power saving in standby" feature, it will not pass the signal through very well, meaning some channels drop out.

If you're a regular Superdrug shopper, you can now earn more freebies and discounts under its Health & Beautycard loyalty scheme, as the retailer has launched new 'VIP Rewards' as part of it. It just seemed to be a major shame that this very good PVR should be rendered totally dysfunctional by a relatively simple and not uncommon HDD failure and then for the solution from tech support being return your box for an exchange unit either paid or free...... So a better internal format utility and some built in maintenance routines would go a long way towards getting maximum value out of HDDs Please note also that performing a default setting may change the screen ratio to 4:3 if this happens please try the following,With the picture quality and ease of use of the award-winning PVR9200T, but with twice the hard-drive size, the addition of an HDMI output capable of delivering upscaled pictures to make the most of your flatscreen TVs, and some truly useful new recording options this new Humax would make a fantastic upgrade to an existing freeview box. Seeing all tested out but unable to find a master boot record to repair – I just Fdisked and formatted the disc from the HUMAX to the Etc3 linux format this link is helpful http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/redhat-centos-linux-ext3-filesystem-format- Beauty Advent calendars are significantly pricier than chocolate ones, but they've become increasingly popular in the last few years as a way of bagging beauty products at a fraction of the normal cost. They often sell out early, but can also be heavily discounted later if they don't, so here's a round-up of some of the best I’ve seen.

I assume the OS on these boxes is some sort of Linux distro. Is the OS actually on the drive or held in NVram? We’re also hugely impressed by the EPG, which is logically laid out and plays live TV in a box as you browse. Setting series link is effortless – just highlight a programme, press OK and a dialogue box asks if you want to record the series or just once. The drive is a 3.5" SATA II drive. You would do better to consider a drive specifically designed for PVR usage. This is one drive that is suitable Link to EBuyer We've read that early versions of the Humax suffered from considerable fan noise, but our sample (sporting later firmware) was fine, humming away at acceptably low volumes throughout our time with it, save for a brief gust of noise each time you start up. Superdrug adds new 'VIP Rewards' offers to its existing loyalty scheme – here's what you need to knowThe usual PVR functions are fitted too, such as live pause, instant replay, watch while recording and even record two channels while watching a third off the hard-disk. Please note that once step 13 is finished and you save the results, please leave it on BBC1 for ten minutes and the guide will be fully populated. An idea maybe is that since you can replay them is to get a HDMI splitter (example only) and connect the PVR to a TV and a PC via the splitter and then use a video capture card in the PC to copy and save the videos to maybe an external HDD connected to the PC. I have read on these forums about a command line utility which can run on Windows to copy recordings but ideally unless the drive is completely shot would like to copy them to the new drive. Is this fairly easy to do from a Linux live CD? The rest of the feature list goes well beyond the norm. You can chop out sections of a recording using an editing tool that lets you enter start and stop points in real time, or split a recording in two. The picture-in-picture mode lets you watch two channels at the same time and even has its own set of controls on the remote. You get access to all the usual Freeview features including lightning fast digital text, MHEG support, favourite channel lists and subtitles, which can also be recorded. There are also four devilishly addictive games embedded in the firmware, which help pass the time when there’s nothing on TV.

Use the tool and the serial cable to re-flash the firmware on the 9300T – actually this was not relevant as the issue I had was 100% due to a screwed boot disc sector on a pretty standard WD 320G 3.5 inch SATA Hard Drive – I discovered somewhat later after the Humax was working properly that there is a format utility included – although the forums suggest that this does not work well. When recorded onto the hard disk, programmes look exactly the same as the live broadcast thanks to the use of a single high-bitrate recording mode. There are three varieties of what people call the skipping problem. Doing a "Humax" format will help with one of them.
