Inspired by the Klon Centaur, this pedal features a mahogany enclosure and several trim pots inside the case to control tone, OD bass, EQ and clipping. Nordvang offers three dual-channel overdrives in which at least one side is a Klon-style circuit. The Wingman has two of them, so it’s technically a dual Klone. The three classic knobs (Gain, Tone, Volume) are integrated by a Ratio toggle switch that adjusts the OD’s maximum gain range. Internally a set of dip switches for each side allows you to extend the bass response. V2 introduces a TRS split function to use with pedal looper systems enabled via three internal dip switches. Its circuitry closely mimics the original Klon, as does its design. Of all of the pedals listed here, the Way Huge is closest in size to the JRAD Archer.

Within a few years, the pedal gained legendary status, also because of the maker’s dedication to customer service, and to hand-wiring every unit that left their shop. Additionally, the controls can be set to distort the sound signal in the pedal, where two Schottky diodes can perform a waveform clipping. ( The germanium diodes are discontinued, we especially select the Schottky diodes to replicate the waveform clipping ) The “gain” knob is a double potentiometer (a “dual-ganged gain pot”), which controls bass and middle frequencies. Treble and volume are each controlled with separate knobs. Key to the circuit are two filter networks that amount to a clean blend. The first is controlled by the dual-gang gain control. As gain is increased, a filtered clean signal that runs in parallel is reduced in amplitude, and vice-versa. This is another reason why players running it at lower gain settings find it to be the 'cleanest' boost or drive that they've played.It features the same simple controls as the Klon, and there are also some design similarities. Some of these are basically carbon copies of the original, both with regards to their features and design. Others have been less faithful in their recreation. The might have tried to alter or improve the Klon’s circuit in some way, or to have totally changed the design of the pedal.Since a centaur is half human, half horse, and the NUX NOD-1 Horseman Overdrive is half gold, half silver – it could be argued this is more of a centaur than the real thing. Dial in these two modes with a straightforward control layout that minimizes time fiddling, so you can spend more time revelling in superior drive tones: I play and record at home with a fairly modest range of equipment and I wanted a pedal to give me a decent grunty OD sound which was also capable of producing some nice crystal clear Gilmour-ish tones as well. I wasn't getting exactly what I was looking for with a Big Muff reissue which I bought a few months ago so a bit of due dilligence and research among the numerous recent YT vids concerning Klons and the various clones available and I was seduced the possibilities of the Nux Horseman. I've only just come to grips with this thing - so far I've used it on the Silver mode running the gain flat out, and also as a clean boost on the Gold mode. MXR is known for making great pedals. And The Sugar Drive is no exception. This pedal definitely does the job if you’re looking for a Klon Centaur clone, but does have silicon diodes rather than the germanium diodes that were used in the original Klon. That said, it still sounds great. True/Buffer Bypass– There is an optional bypass mode enabling the signal to be untouched when this stompbox is disengaged.
