Era da molto che desideravo un 25mm: la lente più vicina all'angolo di campo dell'occhio. Possiedo anche il Panasonic 20mm/f.1,7, ma per il mio gusto apre troppo; sono stato tentato dal Sigma 30 mm, ma i test che ho consultato mi hanno sconsigliato. C'era poi il 25 Panasonic ma... e poi anche per quello ho visto un test che mi ha fatto desistere. At the widest apertures, we have a bit of a split result. Both lenses are already very sharp from wide open across the frame. This is, in and of itself, a very nice result for both lenses. However, the Leica 25mm shows slightly higher resolution in the center, even at f/1.4, (and more noticeable by f/1.8) than the Olympus 25mm. However, as we get to the edges, the Olympus takes the lead, with a clear advantage in the corner at f/1.8. The Olympus’ cross frame sharpness at f/1.8 is rather remarkable. There is extremely minimal falloff in resolution as you get to the edges. I go in phases between the 35mm and 50mm being my #1 fave to shoot with and these days it is 35 all the way, so when out shooting with this 25 (50mm equiv) I was once again having to get used to shooting this focal length. After a solid few days of shooting with it daily I remember what it is that makes it my #2 favorite focal length! It has the perfect mix of sharpness and shallow DOF possibilities. While this is indeed a true 25mm lens, and we will get 25mm DOF from the lens, the focal length appears as a 50mm. So imagine the Olympus 25mm as a 50mm with 25mm Depth of Field and “Bokeh”. Due to the shorter focal length we will not get subject isolation as we will get on a real 50mm. It will give us 25mm DOF and isolation and yes, f 1.8 is a true f/1.8. Just on a 25mm lens. Whether you’re going after food or fashion work, this is a pretty damned good lens. However, the 45mm will have less distortion because it is a longer focal length, so it will be better for portraits too. That doesn’t mean that the 25mm can’t handle portraits well though. We did two days straight of long and arduous shooting with the lens. As many fast-aperture lenses tend to show, there is some noticeable vignetting at the wider apertures with this lens. Wide-open, the Olympus 25mm ƒ/1.8 lens shows a little over 0.5EV of light loss. Vignetting steadily decreases to just under 0.25EV once you stop down to ƒ/5.6 and holds fairly constant throughout the remainder of apertures.

As for me I do like the Weather sealing and yes the Manual Focus is a dream to use, for a while I thought it was real manual focus as it is just like my Voigtlander 17.5mm. I cant believe its Focus by Wire. I am finding I am using the manual focus now more often because the AF cannot be trusted at such thin DOF especially with faces that are not front on where it cannot obtain EYE focus, not ony my lowly Em 5 MK 1 with its large focus box. Despite its ultra wide-angle design, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 8-25mm F4.0 PRO lens is 72mm filter-compatible, allowing the use of PL or ND filters. This provides more versatility, potentially minimizing glare and reflections, and enhancing the final look of an image. Other Features elements in 10 groups (1 DSA lens, 2 Aspherical ED lenses, 1 Super ED lens, 1 ED lens, 1 Super HR lens, 1 HR lens, 1 HD lens) But when you consider that it is a wider focal length, then you’ll get less bokeh at a given aperture, correct? Yes, but we didn’t find this to be a really big damper on the images that we created.Other 25mm lenses include the Panasonic 25 1.4, which is one of the highest rated 25mm lenses for Micro 4/3. We also have the amazingly good, and one of my all time manual focus faves, the Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95 which allows you to focus close, get almost full frame quality Depth of Field and Bokeh, and is built like the Voigtlander lenses for the Leica system.

What that also means though is that you’ll be able to get some glorious bokeh with more in focus at a given aperture. The bokeh may not be as dreamy as what a full frame camera can offer you, but it’s still really good. A deep circular hood is supplied with this lens, which does a reasonable job of shading the lens from extraneous light that may cause issues with loss of contrast or flare. Even without the hood in place, this lens is very resistant to flare and contrast levels hold up well when shooting into the light.
Ease of Use
Now, there is a hint -- ever so slightly -- of some corner softness at ƒ/1.8, but it's so minor that it's hardly worth mentioning. However, stopping down this lens improves sharpness even more -- and across the entire frame -- especially around ƒ/4-ƒ/5.6. However, center sharpness remains excellent throughout the entire aperture range, from ƒ/1.8 onwards until around ƒ/16, when minor diffraction limiting softness appears. This Olympus lens has been long-awaited by the Micro 4/3 community, and I am pleased to say that Olympus delivered the goods. Olympus OMD EM5– Most folks own the EM5, and believe us when we say that you won’t want to take the lens off the camera. Please Support The Phoblographer Specifically, the lens weighs only 411g (0.91 lbs.), which only slightly heavier than the 12-40mm f/2.8 lens at 382g (0.84 lbs.) and lighter than the 7-14mm f/2.8, which comes in at 534g (1.18 lbs.). Side by side against my 12-40mm, the two lenses feel very similar in the hand. In terms of size, the 8-25mm is 88.5mm (3.48 in.) in length when retracted into its stored position, making it very similar to the 12-40mm lens in overall size. The 8-25mm is, however, slightly wider in diameter, at about 77mm (3 in.) at its maximum and uses 72mm screw-on filters.

Look at that image above and seriously tell me that you wouldn’t expect to see something like this on a Tumblr blog or Food blog? The colors are insanely accurate right out of the camera and if you process them more in Adobe Lightroom 5 you’ll deliver something even better. We expect most folks to autofocus with this lens and manually select the focusing point though. Sharpness.BOTH of these lenses can render a super sharp image. BOTH have slightly different color and contrast signatures though. I would say that the Olympus is just as sharp as the Panasonic..well, 99.5% as sharp when both lenses are shot at 1.8. I’d say the Panasonic has a little bit better Micro Contrast though as when looking at some real world street shooting files on my 27″ display I see it. This is a sign of a very good lens, and is one area where Leica excels with their uber expensive lenses. For example, the Leica 50 Summicron f/2 has amazing micro contrast and one of my all time favorite Leica lenses for the M system ( or Sony A7). The Panasonic 25 1.4 is a Leica/Panasonic collaboration so it shares some of that Leica magic. I used to think it did not but it does indeed though not to the level of true Leica glass. The difference is not huge between the Panasonic and Olympus by any means but you can see it when pixel peeping. So because of this, For overall performance and sharpness, the Panasonic wins.
