About this deal

One note: Card sleeves are a mass-produced, low-cost item. I have to imagine that quality can range from batch to batch and your results may not match my findings. We’ll also take you through the different types of sleeves in this article, because you may find that you need to sleeve and also protect with another piece of trading card equipment. Nobody said this was a cheap hobby okay! Standard soft trading card sleeves, also known as “ penny sleeves” are basic and most universal trading card protection. They are most affordable way to protect your baseball, basketball, football, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic The Gathering, or any other card.

These penny sleeves offer exceptional protection for single cards even though they are of a lower tier card sleeve. We had a surprise co-winner in the Card Pro soft sleeves, a bit of a no-name brand. These were ever so slightly bigger than most of the competitors. That small amount of extra material made a big difference when it came to ease of use and general card protection. Brand When purchasing penny sleeves, you will want to make sure that you get the correct size. You will need to make sure the card sleeves are at least of standard sized to fit Magic cards. Some trading card games, like Yugioh, have smaller cards. The japanese style card sleeves will be to small for Magic the Gathering cards. Material Dragon Shield have created a sleeve that isn’t much different to its competitors, but have created a long lasting, durable sleeve with a brand that has a bunch of beastly dragons as their “colour code”. These sleeves are perfect for keeping your single cards protected and can be used as a single or double sleeve. They were specifically built for trading cards and board games alike. They are high quality, acid-free, and non PVC.Acid is your enemy. It may sound geeky, but acid can harm your trading cards. Acid is everywhere. In wood, in plastic even in our skin. So you can’t beat it. The best thing you can do is to try to wisely protect from this evil giant. Acid free materials do not contain acid (duh!). You might be surprised, but if you do not see an “acid free” label, the card sleeve probably contains plastic material that contains acid. These top loaders can also house sleeved cards, and that’s typically the correct way to use them. Traditionally you sleeve up your cards with penny sleeves, and then put the sleeved cards into a top loader for the ultimate protection.

The reason why these card sleeves are so cheap is all down to the fact that they are made from rather flimsy plastic. They provide a small amount of protection to your card, but they won’t really be providing all that much protection. They are more to help prevent the front of your cards from becoming scratched. We will talk more about this in a short while.

Coming into this review, I’d have considered Ultra Pro (along with BCW) as the “name brands” of penny sleeves. Do they live up to that assessment? As far as what separated the two? Not very much, honestly, which is why they are co-winners. From a size perspective, these were exactly the same. Again, this small amount of extra material made them much easier to slide in cards. Standard penny sleeves are very known for feeling loose and slippery, but these will be able to be handled a lot more easily which allows for great shuffle ability as well as excellent protection for only being labeled as penny sleeves. Some of the most popular cards of the late-vintage era were produced in the early 1970s for multiple sports. These cards, referred to as "Tall Boys," have always presented a challenge to collectors. Often times, they use a standard sleeve at each end. Ultra Pro makes a tall sleeve specifically for these types of cards. BCW has recently produced these types of card sleeves as well. We recommend only looking for a penny sleeve that is labeled as being acid free, non pvc, and made out of a high quality polypropylene material. Quantity

I am curious if this is "protecting" enough. Most LGS's I see don't even sleeve bulk rares or expensive rares. Also I am curious if my "Binder Price limit" is honestly too low and I should up it to 5 dollars. I don't have a TON of cards but eventually it's gonna fill pretty fast I imagine if I sleeve every 3 dollar and up card.

These penny sleeves offer a great deal of protection for their budget price and are ideal for game cards. Many companies do not care to put much effort into their penny sleeves and use low quality materials for the biggest return on investment, but TitanShield made sure that they didn’t follow suit. Final Thoughts Trading cards collectors do not shuffle their cards, they do not bring them to tournaments, they do not play matches with them. That´s why their protection is different.
