About this deal

Both sets go up to 90 lbs per dumbbell. This is plenty of weight for the vast majority of lifters on the vast majority of exercises. The Stage 1 set (5-50 lbs) and Stage 2 set (5-70 lbs) can of course be upgraded later to get the full 90 lb capacity by getting the Stage 2 expansion kit (50-70 lbs) and Stage 3 expansion kit (70-90 lbs) separately. The extender options are absolutely worth it for those who lift heavier and need more weight; the non-expandable options are a great value for people who don’t need lots of weight.

Unfortunately, no. They don’t have any plans to release any expansion kits to go beyond 90 lbs for any of the HOME USE models. If budget is a major concern, then either the Elite 90 set or the Sports EXP Stage 3 set may be the best choice for you. I’ll discuss those models next. #2 Elite USA 90 Set & #3 Sport EXP Stage 3 Setand below: We don't recommend dumbbells with this rating; you won't find any on our list. How We Tested the Adjustable Dumbbells Although these adjustable dumbbells are shaped quite unconventionally, they're very storable given their square shape, which we think makes them worth it for those with smaller spaces. We were also impressed that the dumbbells came fully assembled and were super easy to set up. Easier to store than other options on our list, this pair came with its own storage bases. Overall, recommend this set to someone who doesn't require weights below 15 pounds and feels comfortable progressing weights in 10-pound increments. But who knows, maybe they add the Stage 4 for us in the future. At least for me, though, I’m still good with 90 lbs for my DB work. I save the heavy stuff for barbells 😀 Each model has its own positives and negatives, described below, which makes choosing between the two such a difficult decision.

These 100 pound adjustable dumbbells are the only adjustable dumbbells trusted in training facilities of pro teams across all leagues and in NCAA training facilities. Do you know of any significant improvement differences between the Pro EXPs and the previous U series? (Aside from the color bar scheme). The only downside, we found them to be slightly less durable than other dumbbells on our list. The dumbbells stayed intact when dropped on gym flooring, but a small piece of one of the dumbbells chipped off when they were dropped on concrete flooring. But rest easy knowing these dumbbells come with a two-year warranty. It can’t do micro-adjustments of 2.5 lbs since it doesn’t have adder weights. However, it can still do 5 lb increments which are small enough for most exercises most of the time. To curate a list of the best adjustable dumbbells, members of the Verywell Fit editorial team tested 30 adjustable dumbbells in The Verywell Testing Labto see how they performed in key areas. We rated each set on a scale of 1 (would not recommend) to 5 (highly recommend) for ease of setup, adjustability, ease of use, grip, durability, storage, and overall value. Elite Series: Formerly called the “Classic Series,” this includes both the Elite USA and the Elite EXP. The Elite EXP are imported and only sold through third-party retailers. If you want affordable adjustable dumbbells, the Bowflex pair are a great option. Although they don't get very heavy, they are a great option for beginners and those who do not need more than 52.5 lbs per hand.

We also noticed that, although the adjustable dumbbells are slightly bulkier than regular dumbbells, they still maintain the traditional dumbbell shape (unlike many other adjustable dumbbells). This allows you to perform any traditional strength training exercise without having to alter your form. We love how easy these adjustable dumbbells are to adjust between exercises. We were also able to maintain a good grip on the dumbbells, even with wet hands, thanks to the grippy rubber handles. I’ve also heard that the urethane used on the Pro EXP’s may be better than what was used on the U90s (e.g. it might be overall more durable and/or be better able to withstand hot/cold temps) — But don’t quote me on that, as I haven’t confirmed it. Although these dumbbells don't ship assembled, it took us less than five minutes to fully assemble them, without needing any tools. Like the Bowflex weights, Core Home Fitness' Adjustable Dumbbells are simple to use. We were able to easily adjust the weights from exercise to exercise with a simple twist of the handles. However, we still think the Bowflex pair is superior for adjustability because it adjusts in 2.5-pound increments up to 25 pounds and offers 15 weights in one, while this pair adjusts in 5-pound increments and only offers users 10 weights in one. The color bands on the rails correspond with the weight chart on the handle to show what will be selected.Good to hear you have the Ironmasters, too. You’ll have no shortage of weight if you get the 120 lb and 165 lb add-on kits! Reply This photo shows just the Pro EXP Stage 1 base set. If you buy this one, you can (and should!) buy the Stage 2 expansion kit& Stage 3 expansion kit later, to get the full 90 lbs max weight. The PINROYAL 4 in 1 Adjustable Dumbbell Set is versatile enough to be used as a set of dumbbells, a barbell, or a kettlebell but is not easy to adjust between exercises. Beginners will like the Bowflex SelectTech because it's easier to operate and lift. This also decreases the time it takes to change the weight you want to use. This would be beneficial if you were to perform supersets with different weights on different exercises or dropsets on the same exercise. What We Don't Like About Bowflex The 5.5 x 11.75 x 6.25-inch dumbbells are super durable. After dropping them on both foam flooring and concrete, there was zero damage to the dumbbells—not even minor scratches. But there was damage to the concrete, so you should be careful not to drop them on your floor (they come with a warning from the manufacturer that says "do not drop").

Easy and comfortable to hold, this pair offers a soft cushioned grip that felt secure in both dry and wet hands during testing. We also appreciate the dumbbell's durability and think that they'll last years in your at-home gym—making them well worth the rather hefty investment. If you're looking for portable weights for travel, the Deiris Travel Weights are hollow and can be filled with water to adjust the weight. The BowFlex SelectTech adjustable dumbbell is easier to operate because you adjust a dial to change the weights. The dials can be turned in either direction. You have to make sure the numbers are the same on both ends of the weight before removing it from the stand. Don’t expect these to feel like traditional fixed dumbbells; their shape is boxy and the handle is caged. Buy the Pro 125 commercial set or Pro 175 commercial set, linked above. This may be price prohibitive, though, since the commercial sets are significantly more expensive than the home use models. The Pro 175 Commercial Set (Note: you can convert the Pro 125 set into the Pro 175 set with the this 125-175 lb expansion kit.)
