About this deal

After applying the update I connected again my Chromecast Audio via the optical cable and I had to adjust the "SPDIF Sense” level (now available in the menu after the firmware update) at 7 to get the sound out of it. Question: is it better to set this parameter at the minimum working threshold or rather to set it to a higher value (in my case 8 or 9), to be on the safe side? Later on I connected a Wii Mini streamer to the same optical input and it worked fine with every SPDIF Sense level value I tried (even with 1). I'm wondering if the issue with the Chromecast Audio device is related to the Mini TOSLINK-to-TOSLINK optical cable I used (I have no other one to test). The color display screen and user-friendly operating system are easy to understand, equipped with full-function remote control function; It’s ridiculous to have 20 or so EQ settings without knowing their effect on the frequency response One thing first, the volume level is more like 65 to get 80ish db on the Magnepans. I had that wrong. As far as the volume issue, it is said to be fixed with the v1.12 version, which I have. This allows defeat, or 70 hz and up, that part is true. In practice, I have not had an issue with this. I did feel my subwoofer with the off position engaged, and I could feel it trembling, but I could not hear anything. I’m going to try some other gear in this manner to see if it is odd. I’m going to try another pair of speakers too, Era D14s. They are a relatively large 3 way with substantial bass.

It would be also useful to have the possibility to have as an option a full frequency range output for the SW It would be extremely useful to have the possibility to set a cut off frequency lower than 70 Hz for the SW output The Sabaj A30a uses a BTL type amplifier. The BTL method obtains a large output by differentially driving two amplifiers. I was also considering an amplifier based on the Hypex Ncore NC252MP module. Here is Amir's review of the IOM NCore Pro (based on Hypex NC252MP): https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...d-measurements-of-iom-ncore-pro-pwr-amp.8979/ This description applies to all "digital amplifiers" as well as a few other types (like PWM amplifier circuits - which can have analog inputs).

Connectivity & Bluetooth 5.0

The reason why most preamps include both digital and analog inputs is simply because most of us have both digital and analog sources... With most modern Class-D amplifiers, if they have an analog input, it's because an analog input and A/D converter were added to accommodate analog sources.) My point here is simply to point out that it's actually quite simple to create "a totally digital amplifier"... For the test I used my Dali Zensor 3 bookshelf speakers (I had no time to switch them with my Elac Vela BS 403). I know the Dali are not considered “audiophile grade” however they perform pretty well in my room and are quite analytic on the mids and highs.

Thanks Keith for the detailed information. It helps to understand just what this product is. I have about ten days left on my potential return, and though I’m very impressed, there are reasons to maybe pass for now and possibly wait for another version. People have observed that the company usually just releases something else rather than fix issues. Not sure about that but they (SMSL and Topping too) are definitely producing a lot of products, at similar price points.

And, of course, some audiophiles prefer to have the option "staying analog - at least sometimes" and "avoiding A/D and D/A conversions"... there's only bass/treble despite the capability of having more eq. We need at least a definition of what each EQ setting is - though most sound pretty bad. Not a major issue, since many sources now have powerful PEQ, or at least GEQ. Weight ..........................................................................................3.3kg/7.28lbs Due to the new Axign-Full Digital Amplification technology it can probably compete with AB class amplifiers that cost 3 to 5 times more First listening impressions of the Sabaj A30a using as a source a Wiim Mini streamer connected via TOSLINK. Dali Zensor 3 speakers in a 30 square meters room with no sound treatments.

THD+N ................................................................................................0.0008% The speaker is connected between the + side outputs of the two amplifiers, and the voltage between the speaker terminals is 0V, but the voltage between the speaker terminals and GND is half the power supply voltage. No hums of hiss when no music is playing (I didn't investigate the matter at length by cranking the volume all the way up) Therefore, if a wire other than the speaker is connected to a BTL amplifier, the amplifier may be short-circuited and damaged due to overcurrent.

It would be nice to have an eco-friendly automatic shutdown when the amplifier is not in use after a certain amount of time Using the latest DSP chip with ST high-power amplifier chip, carefully designed and debugged, its distortion is as low as 0.0008%; In the case of SE output, the negative side of R-ch and L-ch is connected to the ground, and the + terminal is 0V with no voltage applied, so there is no need to worry about short circuits. It is technically possible to design a Class-D amplifier that directly accepts an analog input (including a basic PWM design)... Subwoofer output level..............................................................................2Vrms Minimalist design although not everyone will like the gold Sabaj logo and the handles on the front plate I’m pretty sure that the Sabaj has my dacs beat (DC-1 and XMC-1) and my amps beaten too (SA250, XPA1L and PA-1s). If this is the case, then this unit changes everything for me. No bulky amps, no expensive interconnects, preamps and dacs. From some reason the default Microsoft failed to work with Code 39 (the drivers Microsoft themselves licensed from thesycon), so sadly I had to rely on the Manufacturer provided drivers. I did also BRIEFLY connected the Sabaj to my Elac Vela BS403 (that I usually drive with my Denon DRA800 H stereo receiver) and I cannot say I detected a significant improvement over the Denon (maybe the bass are a little bit more tight with the Sabaj than with the Denon). However this is a very preliminary analysis considering that I had to move the Velas on the other side of the room to connect them to the Sabaj. If A30a is connected to the high level input of SW, a short circuit condition may occur inside SW and destroy A30a. Since virtually all current loudspeakers are analog the amplifiers we use with them are required to deliver an analog output... The test was carried out using as a source a Wiim Mini playing mainly jazz music from Tidal (44.1 khz 16 bit). I used matching volume on the two amps (mostly medium volume) with the tone controls set to zero (flat). On the Rotel RSX 1067 I tested both the “stereo” (DSP active) and “bypass” (DSP off) modes. All this to say that… I could ear no difference when switching from A to B the commuter on the SOLUPEAK P2 box. At first I was so surprised that the two amps sounded identical that I had to switch one of them off to make sure I didn't make any mistakes with the cable connections. Perhaps (I repeat, PERHAPS) the Sabaj is a little more "airy" in the medium frequencies but I wouldn't be willing to bet more than one Euro on this. Only at higher volumes I was able to hear a fuller sound (= with a bit of emphasis on the bass) from the Rotel with the DSP active (Stereo mode). Channel separation ...................................................................................108dB
